I will go with Zimmerman. Hunt is good, but she has really raised the level of her hittes. Haen is good as well. Of the others, I have been impressed with Lloyd when I have seen her. It is a bit harder to judge setters who hit in a 6-2, I think.

The most improved setter this year is probably Kristen Carpenter. I just wish she was taller. I wish she were shorter! The Lions are tough enough already...

Lexi Zimmerman. No doubt. One of the most deceptive setters I've ever seen. Deceptive, maybe, but how's her location? Exceptional. Her amazing footwork gets her to any ball to set something hittable for her teammates. She's very good.

I think Brianne Barker from OU. It really showed to me against NU Wednesday night

I have to go with the others who say Brianne Barker. The program has come a long way with her running the show. She has everything except that she isn't extremely tall but she sure plays like she is.
She's a fighter and you'll never see her not go for a ball. Even saw her go over the score table and save a third ball against Nebraska two years ago.

can you really say who is the best setter?aren't each of these players picked to fit a certain niche'.maybe a better question might be ,if X was setting for my team would she improve our team. or better yet how many players have said WOW when the other setter did something impressive and quietly sighed a little. i think we see 348 D1 setters sacrificing it all every set.maybe this would allow 348 a look see instead of the top 50 schools setters who have a few more tools in the proverbial toolbox. thanks

Minnesota still can't pick one.

I'll just give an example. I remember seeing Brittney Murrey playing for UC Riverside. I'm not sure what happened with her recruitment, but by the time I saw her play in college she looked like she could start for a team in a power conference. However - when I saw her play at Cal, she put up picture perfect sets that her teammates would often just push or tip over. She had the talent to put up 11+ assists/game with more talented hitters, but on that team she was putting up less than 8 apg. She's playing in Switzerland now. I believe the team that signed her could recognize her talent although her numbers may not have been all that impressive.

I'd like to know who the "others" are that people are voting for? Some of 'em are probably Zimmerman (or am I remembering incorrectly that, when this poll was first posted, she was not among the options?).

The most improved setter this year is probably Kristen Carpenter. I just wish she was taller. why am I NOT surprised that a PSU fan would say this? ....improved from what, its not like Carpenter ever saw play time last season as setter! Oy Vey

She went from seldom used bench player to starter for a top 10 team. You can't improve much more than that.

There are some terrific setters who do not have the best horde of hitters around them or maybe not the best coaches directing them.
Some I have seen are:
Paige Weber - Arizona ( A2 team twice and Andi Collins winner Brianne Barker - Oklahoma -Andi Collins winner - not he strongest team with her Megan McBride - OSU- I like how aggressive she is with the left hand Jenna DeVries - New Mexico State. She is quick and very good. Shelby Irvin -Texas State - small but very athletic and quick. Puts up nice balls.
