If I get bored enough, I might actually crack those numbers, with the exception of Cuba, you're close. Oh well, I'll just go ahead and do it...

And there is also less of everything else too, including other sports that offer the ability to earn a living playing them so what sports there are in places like Cuba get a pretty good focus for superior athletes. Boxing and Baseball too. Listen, I get that although the USA has a less than ideal situation for VB development, that other countries are in the same, if not worse, boat. I'm just asking the person who wants this to be rebooted who they have to replace the existing players. There have been many players who have come and gone from the USA program, same as there is every year. If some had to go and get real jobs OK, that happens, but if that is the case then this isn't a situation where the current coach has run them all off by playing favorites, he's only been coaching for 2 years...so where are all these players? I've seen Thornton, Ammerman, Shoji, David Smith mentioned by name as well as Suxho. So who else are we missing who can reboot this team? Dustin Watten, Nick Sheftic, Andrew Hein, Nate Meerstein, Theo Brunner, Matthew McKinney, Nils Nielsen, Jason Jablonsky, Robert Tarr, Dean Bittner. All of them are worth of having a spot on the national team. As for the match against Italy, If I were Alan Knipe I had taken chances during the fourth set. I'd have allowed the whole bench to come off and see how they would do. Remember, Carson Clark's team beat the veteran team during the scrimmage. I think that Clark was the most impressive newcomer that I have seen this summer but he is playing behind Clay who is one of the top 2 performers for USA. Carson is most likely a little undersized for an opposite, but he did pass up Patak this summer IMO. Hein, Jablonsky and Tarr are all still working out with the US team...the others don't seem to be around or at least I haven't seen them. Maintaining the commitment when you are not getting the PT is tough...and on top of that you are trying to break into a Gold medal winning squad...what do you think would happen to the coach if he just sh**canned the entire squad and instead of playing for 5th they were out in the second round? These changes take time. Salmon has been replaced as has Ball and Millar off of that 08 team...I'd say changing 50% of the gold medal starting team was a pretty big step. So I think the problem you have isn't that there aren't enough young players in there...just not the ones that you want to see, yes?

man cuba's team is ridiculously young. here's the ages (per FIVB)
Leon 17 (OH1) Leal 22 (OH2) Keibir 23 (L) Simon 23 (MB1) Camejo 27 (MB2) Hierrezuelo 23 (S) Hernandez 21 (Opp)
Bench: Cepeda 21 Ortiz 20 Bell 28 Mesa 21 Diaz 25
That's 22.6 as a team overall, 22.3 for the starters!

He will be back for 2012. People who don't know what International volleyball is seem to think that every good College player will walk in and be great on the national team. If you put Suxho and Millar on this team (they are both injured) then the team is still playing.

We've seen Suxho and Millar playing on the team along the last two years and nothing good happend. The thing is, this team built a momentum during the last olympic cycle and everyone (except me!) thought it would last along the next one. You all are quite mistaken. That momentum has gone. And now it is the right time to set up another squad to get this back. As I said before, the current team is too old to face other younger teams.
