Can any of these players earn a real living in these leagues or is more about being able to experience playing internationally, having some fun and earning some grocery money? I assume it is highly dependent on the league and the individual, right? Murina should chime in on this one. But it really depends on how good you are and how much experience you have. These players certainly earn a lot more than grocery money. I believe Destinee Hooker made around 100k-150k with her Korean team last year.. and player like Logan Tom makes much, much more than that. A lot of these girls are making not just good money but great money. Certainly Tom is she is an elite player, but Hooker, Hodge, Fawcett, Harmotto, Metcalf, Larson, and even Blair Brown I know for fact are making great money. League, and also what position you play are big determiners.

Any word on Foluke getting picked up by another professional team for the remainder of the season? If it is even possible, I would think teams would be chomping at the bit to get someone of her caliber. Only the rest of the regular season in Japan was canceled. Playoffs are taking place right now. Foluke is still there playing. Can I ask where you found that out? I don't see anything that says that on the Japanese League homepage and I am not 100% sure but I believe that only the top 4 teams advance to the semifinal round at the completion of league play and that Foluke's team was in 5th place as of the last round.

Foluke told Stacy Sykora via facebook. And I miss spoke, she is there training for a tournament her team has in mid may.

Destinee Hooker is wasting no time putting her new found volleyball fame into entrepreneurial endeavors. As per her FB account, she's hosting a trio of camps over the summer in Texas, California and Puerto Rico. If interested, you can request more info @ DestineeHookerCamp2011@yahoo.com. Good for her.
Jordan Larson and Dinamo Kazan completed the regular season today with a 3:0 (25:12, 25:17, 25:12) and finished the season 1st in the league. Russian playoffs begin April 19th.
Tomorrow Cortese (Berg, Hodge) takes on Yamamay Busto Arsizio in the semifinals of the Italian Cup.

Dani Mancuso announced to retire from Volleyball due to a shoulder injury which didn't heal properly despite a surgery last year. The shoulder would not stand playing on a high level any longer, so she decided to dedicate her life to her family and get married soon. She played the last 2 years for German top team Dresdner SC and won German cup and European Challenge Cup 2010.

Villa Cortese are into the Italian playoff finals in a best of five series that kicks off on Sunday. Hodge really found her swing in the last match against Modena and was slamming the ball into the seam. She led all scorers, which was encouraging as she hadn't been getting the ball past the block cleanly (and into the court) that much in the past couple games.
They'll be playing against Bergamo, which has a large contingent from the Italian National Team (Lo Bianco, Picci, Ortolani, Arrighetti, Merlo, Bosetti the elder), but I think Villa will pull through.
