2016 is a pivotal recruiting year for Stanford ... big time recruits will know that they have a good chance to step right in and start from day one. Fitzmorris would be Inky's replacement. Fitzmorris will be apart of the Huskers' monster '16 class. Congrats on Hodson though, great player. Hopefully the "beautiful" Kansas weather will be a game changer for Stanford. I know Big Red has the edge academically.

The Nebraska v. Stanford recruiting is fascinating. I know the great Nebraska support, crowds, facilities and love and enthusiasm for volleyball are a real draw, but Stanford can offer an alternative experience. I always thought Sarah Pavan, who I guess had a real negative trip to Stanford, would have fit in better at Stanford, where volleyball players sort of fit in with the rest of the very large contingent of athletes on campus, and she wouldn't have been the celebrity she seems to have been at Nebraska, which appears to have made her uncomfortable. Just a difference in styles, as I can see the Nebraska experience could be very attractive to a top notch volleyball player. Much bigger crowds and attention than Stanford, or SC, UCLA, etc. (But I would always take and recommend Stanford; great weather, great students, very nice college experience, Bay Area attractions around you; great place to go. Same for Cal, though that campus is more urban)

Hayley Hodson continues the tradition of great all around OHs for Stanford. Tom, Walsh, Richards, Nnamani, Barboza, Klineman, Williams, Howard, Burgess. I am so stoked that Hodson is committed to playing for The Cardinals. She is gonna be awesome. With the improvement of Sidney Brown, we are at least set for the OH spot (C'mon Lexi Sun) at least until 2017.

Stanford Cardinal 2015 starting lineup:
OH1: Jordan Burgess OH2: Hayley Hodson* MB1: Inky Ajanaku MB2: Merete Lutz Setter: Madi Bugg Right Side: Brittany Howard (the position she should have played in 2013 with Williams at OH) Libero: Sarah Benjamin
*assumes Hodson's passing is on par with the upperclassmen
Optional starting lineup: I am the only volleytalk member who believes this would be the best lineup.**
Setters: Madi Bugg and Kelsey Humphreys OHs: Burgess and Hodson Rightsides: Howard and Vanjak MBs: Ajanaku and Lutz Libero: Benjamin
**unless Humphreys' parents have volleytalk accounts
I would have redshirted Humphreys in 2013 rather than Vanjak unless Dunning has a top setter wrapped up for 2016.

Same for Cal, though that campus is more urban) The "celebrity athlete" talk at Nebraska is different for volleyball players as opposed to football players. Yes, they're the center of attention and are treated like celebrities, but they rarely get any negative feedback. It's probably because they're women (fair or not), but they don't deal with a lot of criticism from fans. If they're doing well, they get praised. If they're doing poorly, they get encouragement. From the players I've talked to, none of them feel pressure from the fans to perform well. Their pressure is based on personal expectations and trying to uphold the legacy of Husker volleyball. They want to win for themselves and because they don't want to diminish the Husker program. I agree that the two sporting cultures are different, my father is a Stanford alumnus and I spent the first 13 years of my life in Los Altos before moving down to La Jolla. The only issue I'd disagree with is the "great weather" part. Certainly, Stanford experiences better weather than Lincoln, but it's not "great weather." La Jolla, that's great weather. But I digress, I think Lincoln will win out in the end, Audra already has a strong relationship with the coaches and potential teammates from the '15 and '16 classes and it's tough to beat location in terms of her family being able to watch her home matches via a short drive. I wouldn't begrudge her taking the Stanford diploma. Undergraduate educations aren't too different regardless of school, but the brand and alumni network are, and that network can be worth a lot down the road.

I have a question for Bobbk or anyone else in the know. I had heard through the years from players' parents that Dunning and Corlett very strongly requested players not publicly announce hearing from admissions until all the recruits in the class had heard from admissions. The main reason was if one recruit announced she had gotten a decision the other recruits started getting very paranoid about why they hadn't heard. Did that policy go out the window?

We'll have to wait and see about Burgess and Howard but they look like they're on the right track.

No Palo Alto I've never heard that and I can't remember more than one player announcing at the same time. However I do believe the coaches ask that a commit not be made public until accepted by admissions.
Same was true in WBB until 7 months ago a top 10 2016 committed.
It's very possible no other recruits have Apps yet. An acceptance prior to the end of a recruits 6th semester is pretty rare. Or if they have an App admissions may not get or review until after the current semester.
That said who will be our other commit, we have 2 openings. Assuming the young women from SoCal who did announce several months ago will be a walk on libero.

Hodson would have to be really, really good to displace Howard at OH and push her to OPP. The Howard to OPP move was so obvious last year, from an outsider point of view, that you have to believe that Howard simply isn't set up to play OPP all the time. Her arm swing doesn't seem set for it, somebody said. I do believe that Hodson, who seems to have played some OPP on various international teams, could slip right into the lineup at OPP, if needed.
I'm hoping McGehee gets a real run at MB this year. I think she'd do fine.

Fair to say the Future of Stanford is brighter. Hope she can pull in a few extra recruits with her. (Hello, Ms. Fitzmorris?) The last word I got which was a long time ago Fitzmorris was planning to wait (until summer 2015) for a decision from Stanford admissions before announcing a decision. At the time she was slightly leaning toward Nebraska. The coaching staff has to push for Fitzmorris to make another campus visit in the fall to get reacquainted with the players and facilities. I don't think Fitzmorris will choose Stanford without checking out the campus again. She and Hodson played together on some national teams so that probably doesn't hurt. Out of curiosity, where does the information about Nebraska being the other school of choice come from?
