Good for her being in that gym. Fantastic learning experience.
Roll-call of players on the court? Harmotto, Hodge, Fawcett, Lloyd, Vansant, Lowe, Simpson, Hagglund, Plummer...? Is Hodson left-back on the far court?

I hope so too...I'm sure we'll see lots of experimentation early with the lineup...getting back to Stanford, what'll happen with Howard with Hodson's arrival? From what I can tell, their skillset is very similar... I don't think their skillset is that similar at all. Hodson is way ahead as a terminator. If I were Dunning, I'd put Hodson on the left to hit high balls. Howard is a strong blocker who will be an upgrade in that department, and she'll find more success offensively on the right (where she wasn't always successful on the left) because Bugg with the middles can get her great looks (not that Hodson wouldn't benefit from 1-on-1s, but I think the net benefit is greater with Howard there). Especially for the upcoming season, Dunning has offensive options everywhere in sight. What he cares about most is passing and transition offense and defense. Since the advent of the libero, right-side hitters seldom pass except to cover for one of the left-side hitters who does not pass well... and even that only works in some rotations. In others, the right-side would have to take the place of the better-passing left-side hitter... and that ain't gonna happen. Neither will four-person serve receive (which Stanford would do sometimes to keep Kerri Walsh in the rotation)... so we are left with the better passer and transition player playing left-side hitter and the lesser passer and transition player playing right-side hitter. This is why Rachel Williams was moved to the right side, and why (most likely) Howard or Hodson will be moved. P.S. Howard could at least compete at libero. I remember a UCLA starting outside hitter in set 1 becoming their libero from set 2 onward. It worked really well (though they still lost... this was during Stanford's long winning streak against UCLA).

Unless Howard gets more aggressive and puts more heat on the ball, why put Burgess in a non-attacking role?

She's the best defender and passer on the squad (DS's included). She is the best libero on the team but the team is not better having her at libero (because of her attack skills).

You maybe right but it should never be underestimated what it takes to be a top level libero.

Now whether that would translate to her becoming a libero is yet to be seen (and we may never see it). But I think she would be a solid NT libero if she worked at it!

Stanford wouldn't be in this situation if they knew how to recruit liberos.

Another week winding down and no 2016 announcements. Someone should start a contest among Stanford fans to predict the date of the first published link for a 2016 commit.
My guess is it won't happen next week. I don't think Fitzmorris will be ready to announce next week and I don't think any recruit will announce until all of them are ready. Four names have been bandied around for some time. I hear there might be five in play for the 2016 class.
