Final SCVA tournament of season:
McKenna playing OH and looking very good. When I was watching she looked like the go-to hitter.
Plummer with some nice blocking. Still has a ways to go in hitting. I would like to see Plummer try to speed up her approach and make higher contact with the ball. This is what has me so positive about Plummer's future. She is nowhere close to her indoor ceiling. Expect big improvments. Heard her parents are enthusiastic about the prospect of Plummer representing USA indoors on the national youth team.
One of Hodson's strengths is her ability to see the court. Hodson is not the hardest hitter in the gym but she is one of the smartest. Despite impressive accomplishments, expect freshman mistakes to start the college season.
Paula Weishoff out on the recruiting trail. Will she take some of her former recruits with her? Someone posted Mick is heavily recruiting Plummer. I have not seen Mick anywhere close to the TStreet court this season. If he is recruiting Plummer he is doing it in stealth mode.

Was surprised to see that both Ruddins and Ford weren't out there for Laguna, Laguna looked like an average team without them. McKenna did do a good job filling in as one of the outsides. I agree with your assessment of Hodson. She really does see the court so well and has a knack of knowing where to be. I also expect some freshman mistakes from her as well. Great player though.

How is McKenna looking in the back row -- the big question mark for Stanford next year?

I watched almost every Tstreet match yesterday. Plummer and Hodson were amazing. Hodson's ability to see the court offensively is unparalleled in youth volleyball. Her arsenal of shots is amazing. Her defense can use some improvement, but I doubt she will have any problems at all adjusting to the college game. Plummer is a "BEAST!" She effects the game with her presence on the court. Opposing setters are forced to set away from her. I must have witnessed at least twenty dominant roofs yesterday, including three match points, including championship point. She does seem to struggle with the high/tight set. Her approach does need to speed up, but when she does commit an error she more than likely comes back with 4/5 "Thunderous Bombs" that make a statement, loud and clear. It was also nice seeing Mima Mirkovic make a nice return from her ACL rehab to light things up a bit. The 18's division has both Plummer and Mirkovic to deal with next year. Hopefully, we hear something about Plummer soon. Mirkovic would be a great 2017 get also.

Sandnut, I enjoy reading comments from someone who has actually watched these players in person. I was only there briefly early in the morning. I take it from your post TStreet won the tournament which at this stage isn't much of a surprise. It would be interesting to see Plummer put up a block next to Lutz or Fitzmorris. It might alter shots of the next Bricio whoever that turns out to be.
Mima Mirkovic got some playing time in the front row when I was watching. IMO she needs to get back in volleyball shape and prove to herself her knee won't buckle when she goes 100% for a ball. It will take time. If Mirkovic can fully regain her former level of play she will be an incredible back row player for a top DI team.
I don't know if Mirkovic is interested in Stanford. At about 5'9" she wouldn't see much playing time in the front row and I don't know if that would rule out Stanford for her. It would be interesting to see Mirkovic team up with Plummer on a sand team at Stanford. Hopefully a top flight sand coach enters the picture at Stanford in 2016/17.
Here are some comments about Mirkovic from her TStreet coach prior to her knee injury:
My player of the month is Mima Mirkovic. Mima is the youngest player on the team but her intensity and power intimidates even her oldest opponents, hitting the ball harder than any fifteen year old I've ever coached...and I've been at it for 20 years! But what makes her really stand apart is Mima's work ethic and dedication. Every practice and every match she gives 100%; even at times to her detriment, sometimes even diving into the bleachers during a play! Her enthusiasm is infectious: Mima makes her teammates play harder and match her efforts on the court resulting in a team that is more aggressive and focused, and aside from her hitting ability, Mima is also amazing on defense and serve receive and is an all-around great player. Keep up the good work,
Coach Chris

Thanks for the post ... as typical of local broadcasters who don't know a lick about volleyball, they did not show any video of her digging prowess. Imagine McKenna and Morgan Hentz battling it out for the Libero spot in 2016.

With Howard and Burgess having graduated we might see one or the other often as a defensive sub for a front row player. Not Hodson of course.

Mima's future is on the sand. In 2016 Cardinal will be adding a very athletic OH. Two sport star who's upside and body type remind me of Megan Courtney.

Is that the 5th recruit in that class outside of the rumored 4? Doesn't sound like Wiltjer.
