I can't think of any another example for indoor volleyball. Of course, Karissa Cook did go to Hawaii for a year of beach VB after graduating from Stanford. And similarly Brittany Howard to Pepperdine.

We are talking about Stanford indoor volleyball players transferring and playing indoors at another school.
Paloalto cited one example of an undergraduate transfer, and I don't know of any others. I mentioned grad transfers for beach. But so far no one has an example of a Stanford graduate transfer for indoor VB. Peyton Chang could be the first.

Well it would be a grad transfer regardless. It’s not like she’s leating the team because she doesn’t have any eligibility at Stanford, unless she was redshirted? But if she was redshirted than would it still be a grad transfer?

Payton Chang did redshirt her senior year, which is why she has one year of eligibility left. She could continue at Stanford as a grad student, but she would still be behind Jenna Gray (and Stanford adds Selina Xu). Since she is graduating, I don't believe she needs a release to play her fourth year at another school. If she did, clearly Stanford would grant it.
The difference with Cook and Howard was that they had used all four years of their indoor eligibility, but not all four years of beach. So under the NCAA "five years to compete" rule, they could spend one graduate year somewhere else (without any releases or waivers).
For that matter, Chang has a year of beach eligibility left, so if she goes some place that has both, she could play both (I have no idea if she interested in doing that).
So in all three cases, it is a graduate transfer. The difference is that Chang has one year of indoor eligibility left.

I see KP is finally removed from the Beach roster. Do we get a list of players that will be at the USWNT open tryouts? Would KP be there? I think there was a list for the Men's but could be wrong.

Do you really call it "transferring," when you're simply graduating and then attending a different school for grad school?

From the academic point of view it is not a transfer: A student simply has graduated from one school with a bachelor's degree and is done there, then enrolls in some other school to pursue a master's. From the NCAA point of view, though, it's a special situation where if the student has eligibility left, the NCAA automatically allows moving from one school to another and playing immediately. Graduate transfer is kind of an oxymoron, but it's what the NCAA calls it.

It's possible KP could be there just for the experience although there is no need for her to be there. USA volleyball already knows about her; she doesn't need to be discovered.

Yes they obviously would know who she is. But this will be so valuable to her. Of course whether she goes or not people know who she is, but everything is so different in the USA gym and it will help prepare her so much for professional play. She’ll be passing better serves, hitting against better defense and bigger blocks, and running the game much quicker which is what the next level is. Yes she is there for the experience, but it’s not like she’s going and won’t get any better, karch invites these girls so every girl training for a month he has chosen to get into the gym and train. I think this is definitely for more than the experience

KP needs to let her body mend, minimize jumping, play some sand tournaments this summer, and be ready to go around August 10.

I don’t think a player as high profile and important as she is is jeprodixing her health. Playing will make her all around game better. I will bet hambly thinks it’s a good idea. It’s a month of volleyball considering she most likely will not make the vnl roster. If she needed to heal she would, also she has from December till then to mend her body. She doesn’t need 8 months off after a 4 month season.

PLUS her meniscus surgery? R-and-R!
