Okay, people, for the 100th time: HOWARD IS NOT GOING TO START AS A FRESHMAN! People can have an opinion different than yours. If you have to repeat something 100 times, it is probably because no one is giving any credence to your comment. It is foolish to speak in ABSOLUTES about any lineup before you have seen any Stanford practices.

Speaking in absolutes isn't very smart. There's always a chance that something other than the expected might actually occur . . .

We tell kids Never take a multiple choice answer that has "always" or "never" or another absolute, (unless you're sure!!!).

I don't think a freshman can learn a new position with three weeks of practice. She will be a freshman starter or bench warmer based on her performance in the middle. Well, there is one prominent exception: Kerri Walsh. She didn't want to play middle blocker... her club and prep position... and Coach Shaw landed her in large part because he planned to convert her to opposite hitter (and he redid his whole offense in the off-season, converting from a true 6-2 offense to a traditional 5-1 offense run by his returning setter, Lisa Sharpley). I remember Kerri briefly filling in at MB in a home pre-conference season match when Stanford was desperately short of healthy middles... it could have been 1998, but I think it was 1999. It was the only time I recall her playing the position at Stanford. Knowing that she'd be an opposite, not a middle blocker, helped Kerri prepare for fall camp. If the staff recruited McGehee as a right-side hitter, she could do the same thing... enough to be able to play, anyway. Don't think I am trying to directly compare McGehee to Walsh: I'm not sure anyone else has been as good a freshman as Walsh was (e.g., she was the 1996 Final Four MOP). Bev Oden might have been.

Lauren Paolini spent time starting at both pins her freshman year at Texas, and did quite well. When someone is a superior athlete she can pick things up quickly. It's not like McGehee would be asked to learn gymnastics in 3 weeks. Shed be doing things she's already very familiar with. I'm not saying she is absolutely the best option at right side, I just don't see it as that far from the realms of possibility.

You should notify coach Dunning of your decision so he doesn't waste time evaluating Howard for a starting position.

That TV schedule looks exciting. Count me in. I haven't checked yet what my cable provider will offer. I am OK with paying a premium. If these telecasts are live and high quality HD programming this will be the best thing to come along in some time.
