Business travelers checking in from NYC hotels?? That, or those whacky Niagara fans. Actually tehre isa very large number of volleyball players and coaches in the New York Metro area. Most of us are eithe rstill in school, coach at a school and are on the Jobs Thread or are just huge fans. New York also boasts one of teh largest vball leagues in the country, NY Urban Professions (really a rec league, no pros). This league features about 300 (+/-) teams a season, four seasons a years. There are also five other leagues in Manhattan alone, along with weekend USAV regional tournaments and weekend warrior tournaments. So it really shouldn't surprise anyone that one of teh most populated cities in the Northeast has a huge volleyball folowing. Heck, we're having a volleyball championship watching party witha fundraiser Saturday night during the Court 4 Championships. Its the third year I believe and it has been successful every year. Interesting. I grew up in upstate and I knew nothing about volleyball until I moved out of state. I still visit often and hear nothing about the sport when there. It's not on the radar screen for the rest of the state from what I can tell. I'm glad to hear that the city has such interest.

Yeah, much of the region doesn't care. I just met a 2010 Penn State grad who had no idea the school's women's volleyball team was any good.

Huh? You grew up in upstate NY and found little interest in volleyball? The BEST players from New York state are from the Buffalo/Rochester area of NY which DOMINATES the Empire State Games every year. Boys volleyball is very popular in Western New York. Rochester and Buffalo have sent many players to division 1. Do names like Matt Anderson, Max Lipsitz, and Robbie Page ring a bell? As well as an upcoming recruit Dan Glamack? WNY is a hotbed for volleyball and I would be willing to bet that most of the activity on volleytalk from NYS is from western NY. As for girls, the Eden team has been dominant and if i'm not mistaken Alyssa D'Ericco from Penn State is from the Rochester area.

Yikes, if the average visit to the site is only 7 1/2 minutes, most people must only be on here about 10 seconds for the average to work out. Because my wife is always saying "Why are you spending 10 hours a day on that stupid Volleytalk?" Sheesh! And I thought you were a genius. I spend only 2 hours a week at Mensa Hawaii. That averages out to 10 hours a month.
