Just spent most of dinner with my two sons (ages 23, 22) venting how disappointed they were in the latest and last HP movie. Said there wasn't enough fighting, and not enough attention was paid to those who died (both sons cried reading the book, didn't shed a tear at the movie). Also said they changed the ending.
They said since I haven't read the book, I will probably like the movie.
Agree, disagree?

I was disappointed, but I was also damned tired. Why I ever let my daughters convince me to go to a midnight showing is beyond me.
But, to be fair, even with 2 movies and 2.5 hours for this one, there was just too much story to tell. I thought Snape got short-changed, as did Dumbledore's past. And Ginny, a major character in the books, especially in the last one, all but disappears. But that may have had to do with the actress who never quite grew into the role, unlike others.
The ending was terrible, even worse than the book. If they couldn't do that well, they should have skipped it.
ALL that being said, they did a fairly good job of explaining things, at times doing it better than the book. And it really was a great effort to bring these books to the screen.
I'm going to miss the whole phenomenon.

*SPOILER*
How did they end up doing the ending when Harry "dies"? I have no inclination to watch the movie, the first 2 were alright, but then they tried to cram 800 page books into 2 hour movies... Just does not work. Physics or something.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about this movie... What did you expect? It was difficult to make and still ended up being the best movie in the series.

And Ginny, a major character in the books, especially in the last one, all but disappears. Yeah, there is no way anyone would see the movies' Ginny as the little kid sister who blossoms into being a person so strong that she is not just an adjuct of Harry. Rowling spends a lot of time in the books building Ginny up to the point where even Harry Potter is maybe not worthy of being her choice. The actress in the movies just doesn't fit the part, and as such the only way they could deal with the situation was to essentially write her out of the scripts.

All I know is that the McGonagall/Snape duel scene was screwed the f*ck up. McGonagall was supposed to go HAM on Snape. I just wanted to see Minerva whoop some ass. The Piertotum Locomotor spell was cool, until she excitedly exclaimed, "I've always wanted to use that spell!!" That is NOT Minerva McGonagall whatsoever.
In all honesty, those of us who've read the books had to know that there was NO way that the movie would ever be able to do the book justice. There was just too much and the books were too well-written. The last several chapters of the seventh book (which Part Two covered) were too detailed and too epic to actually recreate.
P.S. I heard one critic say (before the release) that the battle scene would rival the battle scenes from the LOTR series. That was the most serious overstatement in the history of movie reviews.

Which is another reason why the should have skipped the epilogue. I too was very disappointed. They could have easily made it a 3 hour movie and developed Ginny's character with a re-cast. I would have liked to see that "19 years later" scene after the credits!!!!

I enjoyed the last movie. And I've read all the books. Sure there are things I wished could have been included. But I've always gone into the movies not expecting that it will be the book. Love the books ... but enjoy the movies for what they are. You hope the movies just capture the spirit of the book, knowing the limitations of the format. I thought Alan Rickman had some great scenes in the last film. I thought the battle scene where the death eaters launch hundreds of spells, like arrows, at Hogwarts was pretty cool. Not LOTR epic, but a nice homage to those movies like Braveheart.

Finally saw this last weekend. I thought it was good. Sad to say good-bye to the kids.
What really excited me was the previews of the new Batman and Sherlock Holmes movies.
