Preseason schedules for Alabama, Mississippi State and South Carolina are soft. If they don't put up a big number in the win column in the first couple weeks its going to hurt the conference RPI all year long.

Preseason schedules for Alabama, Mississippi State and South Carolina are soft. If they don't put up a big number in the win column in the first couple weeks its going to hurt the conference RPI all year long. Luckily teams like Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, etc. have some good non-conference opponents to absorb that pain a little. I'm over anxious for this season to start. Unfortunately, we still have time before the first practices so no schools or even the conference have any new articles on their websites (besides announcing the TV schedule)...luckily James has done some posting on his site. Anyways, what are everyone's predictions for this year? What will the starting/final conference standings be? What will be the most intriguing match-ups? Will Kentucky ever beat Tennessee at the end of the season? Who will be on the All-SEC team? What freshman will make an impact? What new coaches will succeed and which will fail? Etc. Let's get some discussions brewing!

I think this year SEC volleyball will be exciting to watch. 5 teams went to the tournament. A lot of close matches last year. This year teams are stronger and new recruits coming in. New coaches. Can't wait to start.

I don't expect any of the new coaches to make the NCAA tournament.
Ole Miss returns their top 3 attackers (Craven, Thomas and Wells) and Cunningham should be ready to replace Kitts. They return their setter, though the freshman may be better, and they return their libero. If they can beat Louisville in the Cards home opener, and if they can beat Northwestern at home they stand a good chance to make it too December.
Arkansas is still a young team, but I think Robbie Pulliza should have enough talent in the gym to make it work this year.

I know how you feel! I'm making up my own news just so I have something to post! I think I'll wait until after practice begins before making any predictions. But I have a feeling we're not going to get as many SEC teams in the tournament this year.

We may not take as many teams to the tournament but got to think positive. Georgia has a new coach who worked under Cook (NU) for a few years and two good asst. coaches. Brooke took the USA Select Team overseas and they won. And Josh has been an asst. in the SEC so he know the history of the other schools. South Carolina could be a sleeper. Flordia always has a tough team but they've got to dig deeper. Started out well but became too relax. Old Miss always tough.

From Mary Wise in a recent practice update:
And in the afternoon, Wise was seriously impressed by a new face for the Orange and Blue: “Freshman Noami Santos-Lamb clocked a jump serve at 55 mph today. Not a bad start to a Gator career...”
I can't wait to see her play.

Its an excellent training mechanism, and can be used as an added stressor on the server! Most college athletes can serve lanes... but ask them to do it AND do it with tempo and a radar gun and things get a little dicey! I'm sure that The Lemerand Center being right next to the baseball facility allows for easy access to a gun as well!

Youth The Theme For LSU Volleyball In 2011 BATON ROUGE, La. - When the LSU volleyball team began its preseason practices on Tuesday, things looked a little different for head coach Fran Flory. Eleven underclassmen fill a roster of 16 players for the Tigers in the 2011 campaign and Flory knows, if the Tigers expect to capture their seventh consecutive Southeastern Conference Western Division Championship and their seventh straight NCAA Tournament bid, they will have to rely on a nucleus of young athletes. Over the past two seasons, LSU has spelled success using seasoned veterans such as two-time All-American Brittnee Cooper, who concluded her playing days in 2009, and last season’s senior class of Angela Bensend, Brittney Johnson and Tania Schatow. But speaking at Wednesday’s annual preseason media day, Flory noted that the Tigers must find a way to fill the void with its corps of young talent. www.secdigitalnetwork.com/NEWS/tabid/473/Article/227338/youth-the-theme-for-lsu-volleyball-in-2011.aspx

While the info is mainly of interest to UT fans I thought some of you guys might be interested in my "little" summer project for the website: www.tennesseevolleyball.net/matchbook/ I think it turned out really good and it is going to save me a ton of time I used to spend pouring over media guides and box scores!
