While the info is mainly of interest to UT fans I thought some of you guys might be interested in my "little" summer project for the website: www.tennesseevolleyball.net/matchbook/ I think it turned out really good and it is going to save me a ton of time I used to spend pouring over media guides and box scores! That is really impressive/useful...I can only imagine how much time that took.

From Mary Wise in a recent practice update: And in the afternoon, Wise was seriously impressed by a new face for the Orange and Blue: “Freshman Noami Santos-Lamb clocked a jump serve at 55 mph today. Not a bad start to a Gator career...” I can't wait to see her play. Is tracking the speed of a jump serve a normal practice in preseason? Yeah... 55 is kind of weak. Let me know when they break 100mph

Updated 8/16/2011
0 6 0
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference announced its annual volleyball coaches preseason All-SEC team on Tuesday to launch the upcoming SEC volleyball year. The preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of nine players, which are voted on by the league coaches. Ties are not broken. Florida, Kentucky and LSU led all schools with two selections each. In addition, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Tennessee each had a student-athlete named to the team. This marks the third straight appearance to the team for Florida’s Kelly Murphy and Kristy Jaeckel. They are also the only two selections that have earned All-SEC first or second team honors in 2009 and 2010. Nine of the players listed were named All-SEC First or Second Team in 2010. In addition, the league’s last three Freshmen of the Year, Murphy, Arkansas’ Jasmine Norton and LSU’s Desiree Elliott, are represented on the team. In a class-by-class breakdown, six seniors earned honors, followed by three juniors and one sophomore. Both divisions have five representatives. The 2011 season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 26. This will be the year for tennessee to win it even tho they are only given 1player respect on the all conf list. What about DD, Leslie and Kelsey? They are strong and they have one of the best freshman in the us, Tiffany Baker. Tennessee will have lots more repping the real sec list when it matters at the end.

That list is exactly as I expected it to be. I still haven't bought into the Pavan hype but looking at UK's roster her stats could really be padded this season.

Yep, this preseason list is basically a safe bet. They didn't really take a risk on any picks there.

That is sad about Jeter. She's a super player.
Wise said the defense is not even average at this point and still needs a lot of work, though she praised Unroe, Monserez and Holly Pole.
She said Chanel is really coming along with her overall play and her set selection in particular. She said the middles should get more offensive action this year. Smith and Mann will probably both play second middle depending on matchups -- Smith is a bit better at hitting and Mann at blocking. She praised Smith's one-foot takeoffs, comparing her to Heather Wright.
Serving will be harder this year. She said Kelly will let 'er rip a lot more on the serves and that others will also be banging it. And she singled Ferrell out for a lot of praise for working hard on her backrow play.

That is sad about Jeter. She's a super player. My sentiments exactly. I hate when a player goes down with an injury and its even worse when it happens to a great player before the season even starts.

twitter.com/#!/LadyVol_VBall Jeter injury confirmed. Very sad that we won't see Kayla play this season. www.utladyvols.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/082311aad.htmlJeter to Miss 2011 Season with Knee Injury Aug. 23, 2011 Tennessee senior leader and Preseason All-SEC selection Kayla Jeter will miss the 2011 volleyball season with a knee injury, associate athletics director for sports medicine Jenny Moshak reported. Jeter suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee at team practice Friday. Moshak said surgery has not yet been scheduled, and Jeter is currently rehabilitating her knee in preparation for surgery. Recovery time is estimated between six and nine months. Jeter enjoyed her best season as a junior in 2010, earning first-team All-SEC and AVCA All-America honorable mention honors. The Solon, Ohio, native ranked second on the squad with 340 kills (2.98/set) and led UT with 19 solo blocks. "We're saddened by the fact that Kayla will be out for the season, but this now allows some other players to step up and perform," Tennessee head coach Rob Patrick said. "Our goals have not changed because of the injury. "I know with Kayla's work ethic that she will come back stronger and more motivated than ever to have a great year next season. We're excited to have Kayla back in our program for another year."

Some good news to report. At Saturday's scrimmage the newcomers looked good for UT. It'll be a much harder road now but I still think we can challenge for the title.
