is there confirmation on this...if so this is HUGE for the big ten...orozco would have been the breakout player of the year next year with how LS dominate Illinois is. Looks like Pepp will contend again this year. I really liked her play. This must be a blow to Illinois. Anyone surprised Illinois let her transfer to such a good school?

Jaz Orozco was at SoCal MLK tourney and rumor is that she has been released from Illinois and is interested in transferring to Pepperdine to play for her former 18 Open Gold coach Tim Jensen. With Pep getting Ross and Orozco, things are looking good for them next year. Will Ross play indoor as well as outdoor? This really leaves Illinois in a bind because they don't have any experienced leftsides in the program with the graduation of Bartsch, Ward and transfer of Orozco Ross was pretty clear about focusing on sand, but maybe that doesn't preclude trying both.

No, Hambly doesn't seem like the selfish type who would prevent someone from finding happiness in order to promote himself. He has class.

I go to school at U of I and have attended many games. Orozco struggled all season with battling a spurt of concussions suffered from spring and during the Purdue match. Whenever she did get playing time for McMahon, she always seemed cheerful and happy. I know of a few people that know her and nothing has been said about it. They may have some team confidentiality rules that I do not know about, but nothing has ever been mentioned on campus of this. I would think that if her reasoning for transfer are legitimate, it would not be about playing time because she pretty much would have a starting OH position for next year.

Couldn't coaches talk Summer into it by Fall. I suppose they would have to allow her time off for the FIVB U21 World Championships, though, and come up with an indoor scholly.

I think they'd need to free up the indoor scholarship now. If she plays this spring under a sandvolley scholie she'd be locked into that.

Argh. OK, let me be even more clear (clearier?). Ross is not going to be on an indoor scholarship. She is going to Pepp as a sand-only player. Nina is on board with that decision.

If I were to hazard a GUESS about Orozco leaving I would guess it was IL's handling about concussions. If a player isn't 100% concussion free she doesn't play. No helmet, no 99.9%, no anything but 100% concussion free. She's a great player but if the concussions keep recurring she's NOT going to play no matter her talent level. And it's going on a year with recurring concussions. I hope she gets and stays healthy.

Maybe Jazz can give it a try.
