I didn't notice the incident during the match, but heard about it after the fact. I see no problem doing an airplane or acknowledging hecklers after you win, but to run across the court in between games 2 and 3 and get in the face of a drunk heckler is over stepping boundaries.
I had a bigger issue with the Cal fans messing with our servers. I'm all for heckling, but when you tug on someone's shorts, touch their shoes or get within inches of them as they are trying to serve, that's unacceptable. Earlier in the day we also had someone behind our bench stick gum in the jerseys and bags of our players. Not just one piece, more like a pack. A couple of years ago one of our player's bags with all of his belongings was taken from under our bench while they were playing. It's getting to the point where they may need to keep spectators back a ways.
On another note: props to the seeding committee for almost nailing the men's divisions. The championships for Division II and III were between the 1 and 2 seeds. The final four for Division I included the top 3 seeds. Impressive.

I agree they need to keep fans back. I've seen that done to other teams as well. The ref should tell the fans to get back or maybe set up the courts to where fans can't touch players before their serve. Both are hard to do. No matter what the team, fans should not be able to touch players.

I have a hunch that Cal's coach put on the red Cuban jacket as it was from his 12 years on the Cuban National Team, and represented his most successful achievements in volleyball. Probably viewed it as a good luck charm Never fear, he has Cal gear and we will get him some more

I talked to him off the court and he seemed like a good guy. His players clearly liked playing for him so what difference does it make? If the crowd can't handle the coach after losing then they shouldn't heckle. Cal had a good team and they were very deserving of 2nd. We played against them in Vegas and they all seemed like good guys along with the coach. I know fans don't really know what goes on during the game but all I have to say is that playing Oshkosh isn't the most friendly environment, especially on the court. Cal had an amazing comeback and the coach was excited and gave the crowd some pay back... Congrats to him. I watched the entire match between you guys, UCF, and Oshkosh. Let's be real here. Your middle, the dark-haired one (#38, I think), was deserving of anything Oshkosh players/fans were dishing out to him. Trying to stare the other team down after hitting an overpass while you're down by like 10? C'mooonnnn man. Haha, it was the 3rd best play we had other than the keg stand and the bomb on game point. That's what he does. You are right, he deserved anything that was said to him. I'm not denying that nor talking about that. I'm talking about the Cal game, I could here them from the stands. I'm just saying it gets pretty heated on the court so I'm not blaming the Cal coach either. The Oshkosh coach seems like a great guy too as I was talking to him as well. They are a well-coached team and back up their talk with their play. I'm not denying any of that. Just discussing the topic that was at hand. As for us, we will be back next year.

The heckling was awful throughout the tourney. The worst has to be Cal Poly. I wasn't there for Las Vegas but my understanding is they were awful to UCSB beyond understanding. My understanding they were yelling about the players sexual orientation, physical characteristics. At Kansas City, one of their B team players wearing a Mustang mask ran onto the court during a Cal timeout and hit one of the Cal players. Someone could have gotten hurt, and the Cal Poly parents, fans, coach's, thought it was funny and did nothing. Instead of yelling for their team they were heckling the same type fo things at the Cal players as they did to the UCSB players. They even wear printed shirts that says "yes, we heckle" which shows the lack of sportsmanship. They should pull the chairs to the side two rows deep and let the back of the serving line be vacant so any contact or verbal abuse isn't within 12 inches of the players. Sad for sportsmanship!

"Cal not knowing how to win" is hilarious. Let that confused man say all he wants.
Omar (the Cuban coach of Cal) is the most adored coach by all the referees, parents, players, and fellow coaches in California. He is a great man who wishes harm on no one. Cal showed nothing but class when beating Oshkosh in Vegas, even after the Oshkosh players and parents started losing their cool in game 2 after losing game 1. After Cal won in 3, the Oshkosh players refused to shake Omar's hand after the match. Only the coaches (a couple guys who actually seem to appreciate the game) of Oshkosh acknowledged the Cal coach after the game. I will never understand why teams like Oshkosh and Illinois have such little class, they turn the sport into an amateur event with their weird attitudes and softball chants. Heckling will happen, but only Oshkosh had an old man spearheading their effort which was just bizarre and at sometimes kinda sad. It was a great tournament and a lot of great volleyball was played. Congratulations on Notre Dame (a very classy squad) on a great run to the championship.

Not shaking his hand probably wasn't on purpose. Are you sure he wasn't ignoring them by air planing around the court after the match in Vegas? You know... showing how classy he is.

ND has put out solid teams year after year as a loyal member of the MIVA. Congrats to the classy Irish for a great win over Cal -- another great program. Good stuff.

But on a serious note, you all make it sound like we are a bunch of classless @$$%*!*s which isn't true. We're competitive guys just like everyone else. With that comes trash talking. It happens in every sport and volleyball isn't any different. As for our whole team walking past his hand, I would have to see video of it to believe it. We hate losing just like anyone else but I know my teammates (and myself) wouldn't do that intentionally.

Oshkosh competes at a high level, I will give them that. I actually heard that most of the guys were cordial away from the match later that evening, even with the Cal guys.
Volleyball is incredibly competitive, but it is also one of the most respectful sports in the world. Watch Brazil vs. Cuba in the finals of a major tournament or even a Russia vs. Poland match. These men are fighting for their lives but it is all respect all the time. Matches might get heated but they seldom cross the line of legitimate animosity. The fans cannot be controlled on either side, people are going to say what they are going to say. It was a great tournament for Men's Division I, hopefully it is as great next year.

I've seen many teams compete at a very high level without trash talking. I'm not saying anyone that trash talks isn't a decent person, just that competition is not a reason for the trash talking.
