Can 4 Americans actually play at the same time? Haven't seen that before, or maybe France is different. What a great team! France is quite liberal with its foreigner restrictions. Cannes had 4 Serbians playing at once (Antonijevic, Spasojevic, Rasic, Lozancic) at times last year and only one Frenchwoman (Ravva, who is a naturalized palyer)

Can 4 Americans actually play at the same time? Haven't seen that before, or maybe France is different. What a great team! Last season, VFM (Switzerland) had 6 Americans, and the season before even 7. In Switzerland, the teams can have as many foreigners they want. The only restriction is: permanently 1 Swiss player on the court (libero not included).

I know Logan has always played in the top leagues and teams in the world and Larson and Hooker are starting to get to that level...has any other Americans besides these 3 play in strong teams/leagues?

That rumor about Berg signing with a Japanese club is not true.
Lindsey Berg @napela
I'm sorry to say that the rumors about me playing in Japan next year are not true. I don't know where this info is coming from...

Jennifer Todd, last season in German club Rote Raben Vilsbiburg, retires from volleyball due to continuous knee problems. She had problems all throughout the last season and had a surgery right after the end of the season and since she would not be able to play before December, she decided to retire.

www.fpvoleibol.com/Prensa.htmlNORCECA is apparently sanctioning the Puerto Rican League for the following season due to outstanding debts owed to players from 2011 and 2012 seasons. In NORCECA's sanction they are stipulating that until all debts are settled NO foreign players would be able to participate in the league. The president of the Puerto Rican Federation states in the article that he spoke with Doug Beal who informed him that European leagues owe more than $800,000 players and no similar action has been taken against those leagues. Will be interesting to see how this turns out considering Puerto Rico is where a many Americans play each season.

I'll take Metcalf off. I thought that news looked official.
New rumors: Blair Brown and Alexis Crimes in budget Bergamo. That would have to set a record for Americans playing in A1.

Anyone know anything about Katrineholms VB Club in Sweden? What league they play in - how good are they - do they recruit Americans - what is volleyball in Sweden like? I didn't get to see them, but looking over their results, they can play at a decent level. My educated guess is that it is basically an amateur club. Last year they were almost completely home grown players, with one Serbian (likely professional) player in the roster. They have a couple Swedish national team players. They finished 2nd in Sweden's top division and won two rounds of the Challenge Cup (European wide competition) against solid, but not great clubs. Most of their matches will be in Sweden, but last year they traveled to Slovenia, Ukraine & Serbia for Challenge Cup matches. They had to win in Slovenia in order to make the Ukraine trip & so on... I haven't searched for the 2013 Challenge Cup teams, but I suspect Katrineholms will participate again. Volleyball in Scandanavia in general is not professional, but the clubs generally have good conditions. Maybe one foreign player might be hired on some teams, but the local players are probably not paid. They can make some good teams, but not great teams. Maybe top 40-50 teams in the NCAA, maybe a little better in some cases. Some won't be that good, but I'm sure Katrineholms will be a decent level. Katrineholms is one of only a couple of Swedish clubs that will compete in European competition. The Challenge Cup is the third level of European Competition - maybe 40 odd teams played in the Champions League & CEV Cups above the Challenge Cup. Their website in case you hadn't found it: www.katrineholm-vk.nu/Edit: They didn't have to go to Ukraine last season - the Ukrainian club forfeited both matches. Since I'm Swedish I might be able to give you a little bit more insight to the Swedish female volleyball scene. If we start with the league structure, there are 10 teams in the Swedish eliteleague. The teams meet each other home and away during the season and the 8 best teams go on to play the play offs. They play quarters , semis and final . Each stage of the play offs is decided in best of 5 matches. Regarding Katrineholm , they got knocked out in the semis in the play off last season but won the championship the previous two years . I know they have already contracted one american girl for next season and one serbian girl as well. The Swedish players in the league are not generally professional payed players but all foreign players have professional contracts , might be one or two exceptions. More or less all teams have at least 2-3 foreign players in their squad . I would say that last season it was about 15-20 North American girls playing in Sweden. The Swedish clubs are in general well kept and there are very few problems , if any , with payments etc that can be a huge problem in some other european countries. In general I think Sweden is regarded as a really good place to have your first european volleyball experience because of the way clubs take care of the foreign players and the fact that every one , more or less , speaks english.
