I'm really hoping that Alix Klineman can develop into our next OH to replace Tom. I've always liked her, she's a pretty smart player and has been playing really well in Italy it seems this season, particularly in her passing. Plus if she can keep her shoulder healthy I think she could possibly take on more of a terminator role. Maybe I'm just biased, but a pin hitting combo or Hooker, Larson, and Klineman could be pretty deadly. What do you guys think?

What do you mean "really?", like really, you think I'm crazy, or... I think she should at least be given a shot. Now I really think about it, "terminator" probably isn't the appropriate word but I'd rather he play than Hodge, who I think is just way too inconsistent. I'm fairly new to the game, particularly internationally so if you could explain what your perspective is I'd appreciate it.

Hodge and Richards are ahead of Klineman right now. If Tom retires soon, one of them will take her spot.

Your perception maybe that she has been playing "really well" in terms of her passing but the reality couldn't be further from the truth. She ranks amongst the worse passing outside hitters in the league.

I was kind of just basing that on the stats that are reported in the USAV update on the international players. I'm probably just looking through rose colored glasses because she went to Stanford. Just for future reference, what is a good reception rate? 50-60%?

Just for future reference, what is a good reception rate? 50-60%? It depends on who is keeping the stats, which is why you need to compare the rate to others being judged the same way. Here are composite stats for all OHs and opposites this year in the Italian League this year: www.legavolleyfemminile.it/Statistiche.asp?TipoStat=2.4&Serie=1&Ruolo=5. Klineman is the worst full-time receiver by a large, large margin. She's on the high end of scorers in points and efficiency, but not the highest and doesn't stand out positively the way her receiving does negatively. From watching her, she goes through streaks of being very effective offensively, but when she can't get over the block, her hits are soft blocked and controlled pretty easily for opponent tranisitions. The Italian League is not what it used to be, so being a starter on a decent team there doesn't have the same cache it used to.

First final match of a best of five series in German playoffs, Schwerin vs Dresden (Nicole Davis) will be played today. The match starts in 1.5 hours from now and will be broadcasted live on www.dvl-live.tv. Davis' performance has been pretty good in Dresden, and she has even learnt to pass free balls perfectly
