after watching that match i am very confused on how Tillie did not get new comer of the year. MIcah is a great player, but he rides the arm of ciarelli. Were Tillie hit around .400 all season at OH, one one of the top teams year round.

Agreed. Tillie is a dominant force, whereas Micah is very overrated. Micah benefited greatly from being able to rely on Ciarelli to boost his numbers, but has a long way to go to become an elite player. He also needs to improve his attitude; he thinks he is much better than he is, which will not help his growth as a player.

I thought the BYU announcers were homers. The SC guys have no shame. I know it is a USC webcast, but show a little neutrality. While I was only slightly offended by their homerism, I was amazed at their ability to flip flop from criticizing the UCI players for missing serves to lauding them for their serving aggressiveness when aces occurred. Sorry boys, errors come with the aces, and I'm sure Speraw knows it!

Speaking of tillie and injuries, I thought it was showers for uci after tillie limped off in the second game.
On another note, I don't think I've ever seen as many bic's set between to teams in a match, and can only recall one or two being blocked.
Who hits it better? Tillie or ciarelli?

Irvine should have won that 3:0. Worst USC match by far in a long time.

UCI is the team that has hit the most bics, and been the best at it imo since they won the NC in Provo.

Last night I witnessed the "Ciarelli-Implosion" Effect yet again. He lost it, which meant his team lost it. You could see it in his body language and facial expressions. The dude is mental and it cost his team. It all started after the 3rd when he the referee standard and it was down hill from there. UCI needs to thank him for his timely blow-up. That was the same face that was at the 2009 NC match vs. UCI.
Nice of the "classy" U$C fan who decided to throw his drink onto UCI girls that were at the end line after the 5-set loss.

I've watched Micah throughout the years...after what I've seen this season, I can now see why he went to USC. Kid is turning into a tool. Thinks he is WAY better than he is.

Whoever thought Chris Austin couldn't read a block up and when to set counterpunch is missing the boat. Kid can see when his man is covered and knows which option to set for overload/empty net. Great question on who hits it better...they're both pretty darn good on it, albeit with different styles. I'd say Ciarelli is more creative with it -- high, low, early, late...he has more shots. Tillie is a great leaper, aggresive with his heat and really good timing vision. Tie?

One out of system high ball almost laned on the antenna...it was so tight/50-50 that Ciarelli grabbed the net with both hands to stop himself from laying out. While Micah did put up some great sets, I'd say he had more setting errors than Austin (who played pretty darn tight the whole match himself). Overrated. If Matt West put some muscle on he'd overtake Micah.
