Sorry, holiday, but I do not believe in the cop-out "everyone's at fault." Some (the GOP) have more to do with our problems than others. The only way my credibility would be damaged would be if I pretended I didn't believe this. You can disagree with me all you want, but calling me "dumb" isn't going to help. So what do you think the purpose to life is? Because if it ain't children, I'm at a loss as to what it is. Doesn't mean everyone has to have them, but there's no future without the next generation. Well of course the GOP has more to do with our problems than others. That is what you live and breath which makes your arguments ineffective and useless because its never about solutions to problems. Its just complaining and pointing the finger. I could not agree more with your view on children. Love kids!! That was not what our debate was about at all however. Stick to the subject.

You're right. Jon Stewart and Samantha Bee expose these fat cats www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-march-10-2011/crisis-in-dairyland---apocalypse-cowAgain, you're extrapolating you're experience as it must be true everywhere. I know some farmers that barely do any work and make $$$ off the government in subsidies and to let their fields lay fallow, this must be the same of all farmers. So Holiday, your experience as a farmer means nothing and your comments about working hard is merely whining And let's set the record straight...teachers aren't complaining about their situation, they're complaining when people are saying they live the easy life and should have some of their pay/benefits reduced (which is a fun stance for conservatives to take considering their stance for the top 1%) I don't think you read my posts . I admit that it might not be the same everywhere and explain our cost of living in an earlier post. Pay attention. I did read your posts, and again, as several of us are making statements over the general situation. E.g the pay of teachers, you responded: "I guess it depends on your perspective. I do not feel they are woefully underpaid. Quite the opposite." Then you went on about your local examples. You responded to a general statement with "I do not feel they are woefully underpaid. Quite the opposite" There was no inclusion in this statement of "in my area", or "with the people I know" That comes later in a separate paragraph and separate clause. I followed up talking about teachers in general and with examples of people I know across several states (and I have worked at a lot of universities with large teacher education programs...so lots of examples), and you again respond with your same small example, and criticize someone for being smart enough to have a retirement plan that they could draw from and work a job to make more money. Should people not invest now? Am I saying there aren't teachers out there living a good life, or that there aren't people abusing the system? No, just that they are not the norm. I will strongly agree with you on the point that teachers are being spread thin by parents dumping all the responsibilities on them far too much.

holiday, if the GOP and its policies/attitude IS a major problem then why on earth would I not say so?
Finger pointing is only wrong when you aren't pointing at the real problem. Or do you subscribe to the theory that when a fireman asks you where the fire is it's best to say "I don't want to point fingers, sorry"?
And guess what? The GOP is getting to be more and more the problem with each election.
I admit the Dems are no great shakes. But they are better than the GOP, generally. Sorry if that opinion offends you so much.

By the way, you want proof? This isn't some Joe Schmoe. This is Mitch McConnell:
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

so even though you have not been in a union, you can confidently state that "you don't have a clue what Unions demand or how they differ" and "you being in a union explains a great deal." you sure have some unexpected knowledge about unions, despite the fact that you've never been in one and it sure doesn't sound like your employees are unionized. I belong to the Chamber of Commerce. That I am sure makes me an expert on Commerce. I also belong to the Triple A. I am now an expert on cars and maintenance. I belong to Netflix and of course I am now an expert on movies. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound sometimes? i don't claim to be an expert on unions. but if you're going to tell me that i can't talk about small business owners because i am not one, then you can't talk about unions because you're not in one.

Always amazes me that people still think Business (in general) -- out of the goodness of its heart apparently -- will take care of its employees, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Agreed, Business (in general) does takes care of its employees out of fear of lawsuits, and when they think they can get away with stretching things without being sued, they often try to.

The bad thing about straw men, is they're so easy to make and take little time to put up.
