Could be very interesting if Speraw goes to the National Team that would leave atleast 2 coaching spots open UCI and UCLA. Wade's job may not be safe in Hawaii and when you think of it LBSU, CSUN, UCSD, and Pacific have not had great seasons the past two years. With so few coaches with D1 experience I woulder if its a possiblity if some coaches flip flop from one program to another

Alan Knipe is back from his sabatical with the national team this fall. Does Andy Read resume his duties as an assistant or does he look for a head coaching job?
Who are the top assistants? Does Kniffen come back to the men's game? Shibuya has done everything but be a D1 head coach. Presho seems like a likely promotion if Speraw does leave, but would he go elsewhere if Speraw stays?

Knipe will be back. CSUN? Not sure they have the budget or desire to make a new hire. UCSD? They actually had a pretty good season, Ring won't leave unless he gets another job. Pacific? Wortman has been that program's only coach, they haven't fired him in 20 dismal years and it's not gonna happen this year. It's not much of a carousel at this point. I think it'll be UCLA and maybe UCI with openings.

Not sure if this entirely the case, but I imagine that Hadley Foster's coaching seat over at Quincy may be somewhat warm.

I've been hearing about a large exodus of players from Hawaii, and if they don't make any changes at the setting position I could see Wade getting the axe. Long Beach should be getting Knipe back depending upon his choice, I've heard alot of negative things as Andy Read as a head coach and even if Alan doesn't return they should get a new head. Campbell for CSUN has done a good job with what he has had, they have a very young team, and if you don't remember they made it to the final four in 2010. Speraw is the biggest question mark in my opinion I feel like he has built an empire at UCI, but if he decides to go to UCLA or the national team I'm pretty sure he's going to leave that program in very good hands. Pacific has had Wortmann for a long time, maybe the program needs a change but if Wortmann has already been there for so long why would they all of sudden make a change this year?

I would wonder if there would no changes until Speraw makes a choice. I believe the choice is UCLA's to make and this will start the dominoes. Obviously many thnk that John Speraw is the favorite. I have no idea but the carousel will not really start until UCLA and USA VB make decisions. I would be surprised if UCLA waits past Memorial Day.

It is my prediction that a number of the schools in the MPSF will struggle greatly with their ability to maintain competitive budgets for athletics. MVB is a sport that is at great risk, budget wise, for any public institution in California. The private schools will continue to have adequate funding but the public schools are in serious trouble. California's Governor will come out with another horrific budget forecast today and it will be huge cuts to athletics in all UC and especially the CSU's in the state....this may put some schools over the edge and schools like UCI, LBS, CSUN will face huge budget challenges.....the future looks bleak....a number of the schools will have to cut sports, down to the minimum D-1 requirement or they will not survive from a competitive standpoint. In spite of the criticisms heard on this board about Coach Knipe, he has done a great job with this team amidst the change and turmoil that he has had to deal with. My sources tell me that USA Volleyball is very happy with him and as someone who got to experience this past week in Long Beach our team is going to be a serious challenger for the Gold in London.....great mix of youth and experience with some stud bucket hitters on this team...great role players too...Alan took some risk by taking this tournament to the Pyramid but it turned out to be a great decision with big crowds and very energized crowds. The commentators stated, rightly so, thattthese were the best crowds ever seen on US soil for men's volleyball....as someone who has followed the sport for 30 years now I would have to wholeheartedly agree with their comments.

I also expect that Alan Knipe's decision to return to LBS will be his alone and predicated as much as anything on the committment that the current AD has or will make towards the sport. The current A.D., according to my sources at the school, is despised by most of his coaches as he really only cares about one sport and that is men's basketball.....all other coaches get leftovers while the MBB coach gets everything he wants.

Especially if he has a family to support.
