David Kniffin's coaching input was the reason UCI won the 2009 National Championship at BYU! He told Speraw to put Bryan Simmons in to save the 4th. set....and he did...Game Changer!!!

What are there... 20 Men's teams ? Due to the small men's coaches pool, there are probably 5-10 people qualified in the whole country for this job, so it should be easy to go down the list. Presho, Kniffin, Shubaya, Larson, maybe Rofer. How about the dude from UCSD ? Would Ben Bodipo be any good as a men's coach ? Lewis coach ?

How about Travis Turner? No recent D1 experience but I doubt anyone would question his knowledge of the game at that level. Local ties, success at all levels, connections within the club circuit for recruiting purposes, and he has experience in out-coaching Ferguson . He may not be interested but I think it could be an interesting choice.

Although I think Travis would be a very interesting choice, I tend to think he’s pretty happy where he is. Running arguably the best junior club ever and living on the beach suits him pretty well. And beating Ferguson isn’t something I’d necessarily put at the top of my resume.

What about someone from DIII moving up? Charlie Sullivan? Has shown to be very successful at recruiting, has connections to Speraw, has a long history of success, and is well respected within the Coaching community.
Maybe UCI, the defending DI National Champions, is a little much; but he is already coaching a defending National Championship team. And while I love Kniffin along with some of the other suggestions, what do you think he would bring that Charlie would not?

With Alan Knight coming back to Long Beach that should free up Andy Read who has been acting head coach there. Also what happened with Mcguyver from Cal Baptist . Both have experience at head coach, though I don't remember why Cab Baptist changed coaches

David Kniffin's coaching input was the reason UCI won the 2009 National Championship at BYU! He told Speraw to put Bryan Simmons in to save the 4th. set....and he did...Game Changer!!! When David Kniffin was the UCI assistant coach he headed up the Irvine International Volleyball Tournament About the Irvine International Volleyball Tournament In just three years, the Irvine International Volleyball Tournament has become the largest international professional men's volleyball competition to be held in the U.S. The tournament was founded by head coach John Speraw and then-assistant coach David Kniffin of UC Irvine's two-time national champion men's volleyball team. Held on the campus of UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif., the tournament creates an athletic and cultural exchange between teams from countries with a strong passion about the international sport of volleyball. Speraw also wanted to expose visiting teams to the UC Irvine campus and the international flavor that is now a hallmark of one of the most diverse communities in the U.S. The tournament is also a rare opportunity for sports fans in one of the world's most active volleyball regions to see world-class players compete here locally. Thanks David!

So, what everyone is thinking/saying candidates include:
David Kniffin (Illinois Women's Assistant) Mark Presho (Current UCI Assistant) Ron Larsen (Current Women's UCR Head) Ken Shibuya (Current Stanford Men's Assistant) Jeff Campbell (Current Men's CSUN Head) Brian Rofer (Former UCLA Men's Assistant) Travis Turner (OCC Men's Head) Kevin Ring (UCSD Men's Head) Ben Bodipo-Memba (Cal Women's Assistant) Charlie Sullivan (Springfield College Men's Head) Alan Knipe (USA Men's Head/Long Beach St. Head) Ryan McGuyre (Maryland Women's Assistant)
And I'm going to throw in Shawn Patchell (former BYU Men's Head)-- he's back in Southern California, did his Master's at UCI, and he was raised in Irvine.
