Now that the Wahine move back to the Big West, do they have what it takes to win it the first year back?

If can, can. If no can, no can.

Like the post I put in the Big West thread, I think the Wahine will tie for the conference with Long Beach State. The Beach took Hawaii to five on Hawaii's home court and they will play at the Pyramid in front of their fans. The Wahine should be fine against Davis, Riverside, Irvine, and Santa Barbara. The rest should give Hawaii a little test.
The thing that worries me is which line-up that will be used in conference play. Uiato, Croson, and Hartong are pretty much guaranteed a starting spot. I think the transfers will have first looks since they have had college experience. I think Longo will start at libero and Maeda at DS for the opposite player. I think Vorster seems to be a fan favorite since everyone seems to want to see her start. Adolpho will possibly get the second middle spot with Hagins coming in as a blocking specialist (Unless she plays right side).

Didn`t feel like digging through other threads. ;D

I would expect the Wahine will at least finish second in the conference. Hopefully...

I would expect the Wahine will at least finish second in the conference. Hopefully... If any conference loses, I hope it will come from Long Beach State who could possibly be ranked again. If from someone else, I fear the Wahine will be travelling for the first and second rounds of the tournament.

Long Beach State will be very strong, but Hawaii will win the conference. The Wahine will have a different look, but will be very balanced. I think the addition of Longo will be a big boost for the backcourt, and Hartong and Croson will get their kills.
The Beach will be very strong in the middle with Hampton and Serna, Johnson will need some help on the outside with Ledoux graduating. The Beach will have one of it's best teams in years. I expect both teams to be ranked in the preseason poll and regular season poll.

Hawaii should lose more games, but not a lot more matches, in the Big West. Depends upon how good this years version of the Wahine is, a big unknown. Last years would have gone through the Big West undefeated.

Yes they can and yes they will. So many of those Big West teams are not used to flying 4 hours to play a match at Hawaii, I see them going undefeated at home and maybe only losing to Long Beach at Long Beach and with 1 loss they will win the conference.

..depends on setters. Big West had a number of young/new setters last year, could bode well. Northridge has a big question mark at setter - if they get a good replacement they can beat good teams.
LB has to get improvement from Juley if they want to get back to top 10.

I also expect Hawaii to win the conference but predict they will have more than one loss on the road. They will get tripped up somewhere you least expect it, like CS Fullerton or CS Northridge.

This might be the case in the beginning especially when the "road" of the Big West - in terms of competition - is different than that of the WAC. Mentally, Hawaii needs to remember that these aren't WAC teams on the road where half sleeping can get that "W".

I think one factor to consider is the mind set between both Hawaii and the teams in the Big West. For Hawaii, in certain years, they fielded teams that were really complacent in the WAC. Part of that is the attitude of the fans, expecting Hawaii to go undefeated in the conference. While the players know they have to play the game, that mindset has to creep in a little and they are not nearly as sharp as they should be. I think the general consensus is that the Big West has teams that are more likely to challenge Hawaii and wins should not be taken for granted. I think the players know that and will be more inclined to play at a higher level than trying to half step their way through matches.
Contrast that to the Big West teams where they actually think they have a shot to beat Hawaii. I’ve said before that one thing I really liked about NMSU is that they actually think they can beat Hawaii. Some of the other WAC teams didn’t really have that belief. I think the Big West teams will believe they can beat Hawaii which could result in a win for them.
