On the heels of its successful opening event at the Preakness, the NVL moves on to Oshkosh !! No joke! Waupaca Boatride & US Open of Grass Volleyball/ Motherlode Qualifier ==> www.waupacaboatride.com/tournament_info.htmlDuriing this five-day event 7/11-7/15, only one day will feature beach volleybal with a whopping prize purse of $5000! There's something to be said about grass roots, but this is a bit much (or a bit little!). This is far removed from beach volley events held in Bradford Beach, which are in turn far removed from those on the North Shore in Chicago.

Someday, all of these semi-pro events will count for points in a common system. Someday, all of the 'series' events run from Seattle to San Diego, from Belmar to Miami will be recorded in a common framework.
But not today.

So much for the $50k that they were originally talking about.

So do we have some low ranked pro's going to the NVL in hopes for an easy grand?

So much for the $50k that they were originally talking about. Not sure if one should read this then has suggesting the other events are going to have smaller payouts ultimately. I don't know all the details but they're probably spending a pretty penny hauling in sand to setup some temporary "beach courts" while most everyone else plays grass on some big open areas. Unless some sort of permanent facility is coming out of this, it sure sounds like a lost of serious money that won't be recovered. I wonder if he's "renting" sand for this sort of setup? Anyone know more?

A site to facilitate this is in place: www.usabeachranking.org. Past history with event results (outside of AVP events) suggests though that hardly no one is very proactive about recording results for tournaments from top to bottom. And USA Beach offices don't have the manpower nor the interest probably to be full-time tabulators of results. Hopefully volleyball tourney directors will work together to make this system more useful.

So how'd the NVL go? How many dropouts due to the qualifier for Cuervo and the prize money being a little bit lower then original.

Bomgren brothers defeated belov / Camacho in the finals. Bates / Burik and kyle Buckley / zoran grabovac took 3rds. Sand was pretty packed. Event was well-ran Sent from my DROID X2 using ProBoards

Looking at the women's entry list, I figured Harris & Wallin might win this. I see they played Chicago instead, and got $1500 for 9th place. Smart move.

I'm pretty certain they won the NVL event. Oh, I see my mistake. NVL played on Sunday, not Saturday. I hope BVBDB gets the results soon. Or maybe even the NVL website. Edit: BVBDB now has results (though not payout). Scaling by a factor of 10 from Belmont Stakes, 1st place in Oshkosh would earn $750.
