UCI's 2012-13 roster has been updated. www.ucirvinesports.com/sports/w-volley/2012-13/rosterThe new players are: 1. Sydney Wright 2. Victoria Dennis 3. Allison Lee (Cal Poly transfer) 4. Marisa McGinnis (walk-on) A few years ago UCI probably led the country in having the most players named Alexandra with 3 (Hauser, Filkins & Bubica). This season UCI is probably #1 in the country in having the most players named Marisa with 3 (Bubica, Alvarez & McGinnis). Oh yeah!

That seems unfortunate for UCI. Injuries and players not returning. I wonder how well they will do now.

Garand, its been a while since I read the NCAA rules(unless you're looking for something specific, its boring) I'll try my best. As long as she has a release from Cal Poly(must have, she's on UCI's roster), its only the conference rule that restricts her from playing this year. She's able to receive financial aid, practice with the team, almost like another redshirt year, can't play. Also loses a year of elibility. As to the last part of your question, yes, yes.

Thanks, Leftout. Given that there are variations, is the scenario you described common or even typical in other conferences?

Garand, the requirement to sit out a year for an intra-conference transfer is a common conference rule. The financial aid, ability to practice with the new team, the one year loss of eligibility(an athlete could use a red shirt year if she hasn't already), are Ncaa rules. For further info on this thread, refer to Reply #109. You're welcome.

FYI, San Diego is really, really good. Returns everyone from a team that pushed UCLA harder than pretty much anyone else in the tourney (and in Westwood to boot). Texas had better bring it tomorrow.

Jake can't really be that surprised. San Diego is a very strong team and Poly is coming off a hellish season, has lost too much talent, and is now undergoing a major staff transition. We hope for the best, but in practice they're likely to take more lumps than they give this year.

Boise State will now be part of the Big West again on July 1, 2013 That...makes no sense for the Big West. Or am I missing something? And I second (or third) the comments about USD - that is a very good team.
