I am so over the Olympics already. Actually, I probably was before they even started.
I really hate the hyping of athletes before they even compete. And the advertising of those over hyped ( and often washed up) athletes is annoying. Shawn Johnson quit 2 months ago, and I still see her ads.
And then they have this spectacle called the opening ceremonies.
I could go on about they spent enough on that crap treat they could have fed a dozen third world countries for a year. But then it seems those 3rd world countries have participants in the games. I'll bet you couldn't locate half of the countries they introduced on a map. Heck, I never heard of a ton of them.
But really, how can people say " they were the best opening ceremonies ever!!". Seriously, do you really remember the 2008 ceremonies? And if so, why?
So, I wouldn't even watch them. But I'm stuck in a bar, and that's all they have on. (I'm stuck because I walked over, and it is raining out.
So:
Now we get athlete injury updates from twitter? Who needs reporters now anyway?
The USA men's gymnasts have bigger boobs than the girls.
Rowing for nearly 6 minutes straight? Ouch. Is there a more physically demanding sport?
NBC sports is now showing se Soccer game. I hate soccer More than the Olympics.

And that logo! Hello? How about some variety? One ring, OK. Two. Fine, I guess. But five??

Don't even get me started on them playing the same music over and over. How about some variety.

Oh, and the saddest part of the Opening ceremonies- Muhammed Ali.
It was just sad to see them wheel him out in his condition. He couldn't even stand on his own.
Very sad.
I will now return to my sarcastical comments ...

They should put Bob Costas in the pool to do interviews during the race. And leave him in his suit.

I love Bob.
Dagget, Trautwig and Elfie? Please. With cement shoes. And sharks. And a depth charge or two.

It amazes me that a no talent hack like Trautwig is still making a living as a sportscaster.

Maybe they don't actually pay him. Maybe he sells stuff on e-Bay for a living. (Tim Daggett's stuff, I'm betting.)

Opening ceremonies, for whatever reason, get huge ratings. I agree they are a colossal waste of money. You could have a very nice opening ceremony without spending millions of dollars for a TV spectacle that is a vehicle for advertising.
I also despise all the tape-delayed sporting events. Maybe 20 or even 10 years ago, that was tolerable. But we live in a Twitter world and I really didn't have too much interest in watching Saturday's VB match when I already knew the outcome.
But I did watch some of it and was struck by two things: Damn the people in the arena, even people in the front row, were really far away from the court. The TV camera coverage of the match was less than stellar. People who do TV coverage of volleyball need to take lessons from the crews in Hawaii and Nebraska who do volleyball the right way.

On the coverage. By what I can see it is the same setup as all the FIVB matches. So the FIVB probably mandates the coverage, camera angles, court spacing etc.

I will give the Opening Ceremonies a C+. Pretty hard to follow Bejing. I just didn't get most of it. The large baby was disturbing, Mary Poppins made no sense, and the Internet guy had me baffled. Besides, I thought Al Gore invented the Internet? I jus wanted to hear Queen songs. Where was Elton John? Closing ceremonies, maybe? I'm a sucker for fireworks, so that was cool, and the cauldron.
Questions/comments: 1. Bob Costas has had some work done or been shot up with Botox recently. 2. Ryan Seacrest? 3. How do they get the horses over for equestrian events? Boat, plane? 4. Is the cauldron still in the middle of the stadium? Don't they do track and field there? Make it tricky for the javelin throwers. 5. What if Misty or any beach player gets hurt. Is there a sub standing by, or do they forfeit their matches? 6. Why no coaches allowed in beach volleyball? 7. Watched air rifle, archery, handball, table tennis, and badminton yesterday. Pretty cool. Male gymnasts have some amazing biceps. 8. Women's basketball is boring, even in the Olympics.

That air rifle/archery/handball/table tennis/badminton competition can be pretty gruesome. Sort of a Hunger Games vibe.

The guy invented the World Wide Web and he made sure that it's public domain so no one can keep it for themselves. Marty Poppins was fun, its that British sense of humor. Kind of hoping for a Monty Python finale. Maybe they well bring back the vikings and SPAM. The houses are flown over. I know that thanks to the coverage given Ann Romney's horse.
