Huh?? What does prime time have to do with a Saturday night? There's a reason the networks schedule their important media properties for M-Th night and send low-rated shows to the weekend graveyard. More people can watch at 1:30pm on a Saturday than can watch it in the evening when many people are involved in social events. Sorry, didn't realize that the final was on Saturday. I still stand by the fact that more people watch television on Saturday night over Saturday day. If the opposite were true, we wouldn't see so many damn infomercials on Saturday days. Nah, you had a good point.

If I had confidence that NBC (or, any network) wouldn't butcher the tape delay telecast maybe I wouldn't be as disappointed.
However, I can't see them televising every point. Or, every set, for that matter, should the gold medal match be a five set affair.

Or, every set, for that matter, should the gold medal match be a five set affair. Precisely. If my choice is between: watch the event live through a somewhat pixelated international feed and have all the excitement that comes from witnessing it as it occurs and is covered by a production company that knows how to show the sport.... Or.... Get a really high-quality video on a bright HD tv but take the risk that after waiting all day and avoiding spoiler sources we'll be shown less than 75% of the match, and they will do that horrible NBC thing they like to do where they pretend a tape delayed broadcast is "live", and cut away to commercials and then come back to the match five points later as if it were actually going on and they had no choice but to miss a few points here and there. It's the country mouse and the city mouse all over again. And let me tell you, I was country mouse when country mouse wasn't cool!

Apparently, lack of daytime viewership doesn't concern NBC when it comes to theh women's basketball game as it is being carried live (3:00 - 5:30 central time).

NBC can't win. If they showed it live, people would be grumbling that it isn't shown during prime time. NBC is actually doing volleyball a service by putting it on when more people can watch it. If they're going to severely truncate the coverage, like the last two times (men's and women's), I'd as soon they don't show it in prime time. Butchered coverage doesn't help the sport.

The U.S./Canada women's soccer match today was live here in Seattle (great, great match). Could mean they're "listening", a bit anyway.

They won't offer the live on-line version. We'll need another source. Huh? Why do you say/think it won't be available live online? Every other event in every other sport has been available live online - even medal rounds. Not with the commentary you'll get on the broadcast, etc - but still live online nonetheless. NBC even already has a link established to watch it live online: www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/video-watch.html?video=womens-gold-final-425756

Believe Ruffda is correct. A foreign service has been showing live volleyball, but my feed is so choppy that it's unwatchable after awhile. PM me is you want the service. Another has all the matches on replay, but my laptop freezes literally every five seconds, and after awhile hitting the play button gets boring.

I don't have a problem with the tape delay but are they willing to show a long five set match in prime time??? I'm guessing no. That's what irks me. Show it when it takes place, most can record it if they aren't home, but they're going to do what they want any way.

Folks, from what I've been able to tell, they've stopped tape-delaying "live" matches, whether volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. The volleyball match tomorrow will be live for the whole country (11am, on the west coast).

I've watched nearly every medal round in gymnastics, diving, and swimming live online before it's been shown on prime time. (in addition to watching tennis medal rounds live online instead of watching them on Bravo.) No single event I've tried to watch - from any round of competition - has been unavailable online. I think it seems odd that they'd have this rule only for volleyball?
