Instead it sounds a lot like someone who sees a chance to preemptively establish their I-Told-You-So position for later activation. I'm shocked, shocked! that anyone would do this on an internet forum.

We should leave Glass out of this.. it's not fair to her, or the setters at the OGs. Just saying there are more similarities than differences between Berg and Thompson. It's not a knock on Glass.

I'm shocked, shocked! that anyone would do this on an internet forum. Me too. Particularly since I actually wasn't. In my first post I made it clear I agreed with Hugh's decision, since CT was a better option for the role off the bench and it was worth taking a chance that Berg would not get injured. My only, rather banal, point was that Berg did get injured, so his decision is bound to be scrutinized. Is that whimsical enough?

Well, this is interesting. From the Star Tribune: www.startribune.com/sports/165373076.html U's Berg sits out with leg injury Here's the interesting part to me: Berg walked without a limp before Tuesday's match, and warmed up without a limp. She appeared to suffer an ankle injury during her team's final preliminary round victory, but she and the team were intentionally vague about the injury.
"It's actually not my ankle,' she said.
"I'm just a dumb jock," McCutcheon said. "I'd say it's her leg."So, who knows.

The article ended with this: While the U.S. men's and women's basketball teams and the U.S. women's soccer team have been extremely accommodating, acting as ambassadors for their sports, Berg and star hitter Destinee Hooker were the only U.S. players who spoke at length after Tuesday's match, and a team official pulled Hooker away during an interview. Berg was happy to talk.Is this an FIVB thing? A USAV thing? Or, specific to this team? In any case, it's too bad.

All the smoke and mirrors makes me think it's more likely that she won't play again, and this is just gamesmanship.

All the smoke and mirrors makes me think it's more likely that she won't play again, and this is just gamesmanship. Hate to agree with you but it would appear that way. By "hate to agree with you" doesn't mean that I don't have confidence in Courtney but rather I wanted to see Lindsey be on the court for her final Olympics.

They really just havent addressed it at all. Not sure what youre talking about. Pretty common for coaches or teams to not make statements regarding status of players. 1. They may not know. 2. They may not want others to know.

CT will be fine. I've watched her play at the UW many times and she is very confidant player and a great leader.

Also, I doubt you could swing a cadaverous tendon at the Olympic Village without hitting an ortho or official with access to an MRI machine. See item 1.

I understand I started this thread, but I think we need to move on with the assumption that CT will take the spot from here on out.
If Berg plays, it will be a surprise, and MAYBE a good one.. but until then, I think we have more than a good enough team to win Gold.

The problem, of course, is that we're in an information vacuum on Berg, with only cryptic comments dribbling out. We're all hoping she can come back, since the team's best chance of winning is with her on the floor, healthy. If it is her achilles tendon (a strain?), however, that might not be in the books.

I think Berg will be back. Did you watch her demeanor on the sidelines during the DOM match? She was all smiles and laughing everytime the camera showed her. That isn't the demeanor of someone who thinks their Olympics is over.... Unless she's come to terms with it already and the pain pills are making her feel reeeaally goood.... IDK, just my 2 cents.

Maybe she was putting on a brave face and being a leader for her teammates? Her sulking on the sidelines would only bring the team down. Berg is classy; she will put it past her and inspire her teammates.
