These commentators are special. "USA will play for their first Gold ever!" .... except for the two times they played for that little gold medal. Could read it the other way, however. First gold ever, not playing for it.

... and for all you fools that said Lindsey Berg was done it's time for you to give up your backseat Dr. license and go back to your desk job at IBM.
... for all you that had faith and said lets just wait and see, BRAVO!

First gold ever, not playing for it. you could, but if you take it that way we might as well have the medal presentation now.

Huh?
"Ever" modifies gold, not playing for -- is what I mean.

I don't see what the problem is. In 2010 it would have been completely correct after the NCAA semis to say "Cal will be competing for their first championship ever".

It really is only future that said she was done. ;D Congrats USA, this team looks so focused unlike Beijing where there were tears all around after winning the semifinals.

No one thought that American team would reach the finals.

If they said, "USA will be competing for the gold for the first time ever" it would be wrong. If they said, "USA will be competing to win their first ever gold" it would be right. I didn't hear the actual comment, but as reported here on the site it sounds like it parses as the latter.

Congratulations to both teams!
Even though USA swept Korea today, this looked like a better Korean team than when they met during Pool Play. I hope Korea keeps improving and wins the bronze.
Well done, USA. Now assured a medal. Just need to work even harder to make sure it is the right color.
Go USA!

Can't handle to truth? Glad your not my Doctor. Now your quoting Jack? I am as happy as anyone that Berg is playing and the womens team is at full strength.....you make it sound like i would have been happy if it was otherwise and that is far from the case. Clearly it was a light strain if the calf or achilles of some kind ......which brought horrible thoughts. Bravo usa!

Here is the problem... you still claim to know what her injury is, but now it's a light strain and not a career ending one... She is golden.
