Who had the better quadrennial ? Lang Ping or Hugh ? Lang inherited a quarterfinal Olympic loss in '04 and Toshi's tanden bs and brought them to a silver in Beijing. Hugh inherited a silver medalist team and produced a silver medalist team 4 years later. Was it a better result, status quo or disappointing?

Hugh did lead the team to the world #1 ranking and lots of non-Olympic gold medals.

Hugh also had a hand in making them the #1 team in the world.
I am monumentally depressed. I may have to take a couple of years off from volleyball. Farewell, cruel world.
Dammit.

You forget. Part of the deal was Hugh coming here as the gold-medal winning coach.
Nope. I'm jumping. And I'm taking the computer with me.

"At the conclusion of her fourth, and likely final, Olympics, a gold medal had disappeared as quickly as the U.S. volleyball team’s one-game lead. Now, as the 31-year-old veteran led her team to the net to congratulate Brazil, she looked up. On the platform where a mustached Russian had refereed the match, stood three Brazilians, dancing and cheering as if they had toppled the statue of an infamous dictator.
Tom looked up and, she said, told them to "get their [butts] down from the ref stand and give us five before you celebrate."
I can actually hear Logan saying that.

Okay, so which of you VolleyTalk doofus didn't wear his or her lucky tshirt today? Isn't "doofi" the correct pluralization? Apparently autocorrect on my phone doesn't like "doofs".

"I did tell them, 'Get your asses down from the podium' or whatever before you celebrate. It's just a respect kind of thing," said Logan Tom, a 4-time Olympian for the U.S.
"A lot of them are my friends. They celebrated a little differently than I would say Americans do. So I let it slide," said Tom. "It's their culture. They can celebrate how they want to celebrate."
"It's Brazil. We know their fans can be … I'm gonna put my foot in my mouth in a second. Ya'll are killing me," she said with the laugh.
"I'm used to it. It's their way of culture. They have a different way of thinking when it comes to their crowds. I don't take it as an insult, even if it might seem like it. But it's not," said Tom.
"They're very hot-blooded. You know, South Americans, they like to dance, shake their booty. They are who they are. I am who I am."

Well I for one am not surprised we lost today. A lot has been made about Hugh's twelve. Hugh rolled the dice, and USA lost today. I have always thought that maybe it would be better for us to lose in the prelims just so we could get it out of the way. I remember reading a twitter from one of our Pan AM Cup players after they lost. She talked about her play how it was not good enough for USA and she was not going to let her teammates down again. That group was really together. Their little dance on the Gold medal stand said a lot about team chemistry. Or when Richards was given the MVP trophy and she went to her teammates. I don't know if this group had that type of chemistry. Hind sight is always 20/20. The sun will be there tomorrow.

Definitely very disappointing. Got out of a movie (which was not good) and immediately checked my phone for the score... Immediately killed my mood. What else is there to say? I mean... ugh. >_<
Silver is not bad, but... this was the year. This was the big chance.

Hooker, Larson, Glass etc. Seems like things are set up to be pretty good until 2020.

Well I for one do not think Larson will be playing volleyball in 2020. I would think we would do well to have her in 2016. Hooker I really do not have a feel for.
