This forum is boring whenever it is dominated by one political faction or another. I wish we could talk about actual issues without resorting to polarized crap, but it seems like that has mostly been impossible.

I agree that a lot of the dialogue has become polarized, however I feel there have been some good discussions (not as many as I would like, and I feel that good discussions often get overtaken by 1 or a few that take a locked in view of the issue without discussion (or evidence)).

I wish we could talk about actual issues without resorting to polarized crap, but it seems like that has mostly been impossible. The same question can be asked about the country at large. I often get a worse feeling reading comments on political news articles than I do following the pissing contests here. Seems to me that many posters focus on stating why they are "right" instead of trying to understand how the other side of the argument came to believe the "wrong" position. The louder, more outrageous posts also tend to get the most replies, which simply encourages the behavior. Plenty of name calling here, too, and distinguishing "Jane you ignorant slut" joking around from more serious insults is harder in a text format.

I try from time to time to focus on the large issues like budget deficits, the size of government, etc., but so often the forum topics degrade into pissing contests.

Garrison, you surprise me. You didn't strike me as a guy interested in hearing the other point of view.....but........I admire your thought. If we can all give it a go then perhaps Congress can watch and learn.

1) I don't think in terms of "the other" point of view. That limits everything to just two sides, which guarantees polarization.
2) I'll listen to anything with thought behind it, but soundbite crap is just crap.
3) I don't respect people's point of view just because they have one. I respect people because they are people, but if I think their point of view is messed up I don't hesitate to say so. But that doesn't mean I don't want to hear people who disagree with me. I would rather learn if I am wrong about something than go through life fat, dumb, and happy.
