My daughter is verbally committed to a D1 school. She just started her senior year of high school. We are going to watch her future college team play an away match tonight. Can we talk to her future coaches? If she sends them a text message, can they answer her? When can they call her?
These rules seem to change every year and we don't want to do anything wrong.
If she was a DII kid, the answer would be yes due to some recent rule changes.
However, at the DI level, coaches cannot text her and they can not talk to her off of their own campus. They can say "hello", but that is about it. If the match was a home match for her future school, then yes, coaches could talk to her since on-campus contact is allowed.
After you sign the NLI in November, there is unlimited electronic and in-person contact.
Why so harsh Mocha, these rules are confusing for many parents. Especially when it is just a verbal so far. Thanks Karellen for answering their questions.

Senior year, they can have off-campus contacts (limited) during the contact period.
As for the Anne Kordes informational video...it's a bit wrong as to current rules have changed.
Karellen and lonewolf, thank you for being helpful.
Mocha and future, not full of sh*t about my daughter and not trolling for anything but some info about recruiting rules. I also don't have a bevy of coaches in each division. What I do have is three kids. One who runs, one who plays vb and a laxbro. I'm not who you think I am.
Think I will head back over to the lacrosse site where we treat folks a little nicer.
I think Mocha's point may have been that your daughter should probably contact the coaches of the school your daughter is going to play at by calling them and asking this. Communication is important in a coach-player relationship and this would be one more step in that process, instead of asking on this forum. Or you, mangoman, if that is your real name, could call them and ask, but probably better if your daughter did. And since you are going to the match, shouldn't the coaches there already know you are coming? And have informed you that they will have time to chat with you before or after a match, or will just have to say "hello" and "thanks for coming" but that is about all due to NCAA rules. And that the coaching staff of that school should have explained all of these things to you during the recruiting process and when you verbally committed. And if your daughter is going D1, I'm just assuming she plays for a high level club, and she should have a recruiting coordinator there who can answer this for you, or some coach there who can answer this for you, although they may say the rules keep changing so you're better off asking the coaches at your chosen school. Or if you're really afraid of breaking a rule by contacting the coaches, contact the compliance coordinator at your chosen school and they better have the right answer. As a forum, and I'm going to speak for everyone here, we are happy to help and think we know very much about every aspect of this sport. Although Mocha maybe could have said it a little nicer.
Dang, it was just a question Mangoman asked; and a pretty harmless one at that.
Have you ever realized not all kids play at high level clubs that have recruiting coordinators? Perhaps those kids may not be recruited by PSU and Stanford, but I don't think Mangoman ever said his daughter was going to a top 25 program (she could be though, I don't know).
Y'all need to lay off. Karma will bite you in the ass one day.

very good my apologies...good luck on your kids future
"There are three things we all should do every day," he said there. "Number one is laugh; you should laugh every day. Number two is think — you should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. Think about it: If you laugh, you think and you cry that's a full day, that's a heck of a day. " Jimmy V.
Can college coaches Coach HS seniors during their club season?
And who has a club with a well informed recruiting director? Some would find it helpful to know who those clubs are. You can assume a top club has a director listed, but they may not offer a whole lot of assistance.

DI college coaches can coach any HS kid as long as they live within 50 miles (as the crow flies) or is the closest club to their residence.

You should email the coach with a link to this thread and ask them to login and post a reply. Or you could tweet the question, or post a question on Facebook. Lots of options in a modern world where nobody communicates by actually talking anymore.
