Is the Setter of the Week category new? If so, I am surprised they did not also add a Libero of the Week like some of the other conferences do.

Why does the number of kills and hitting percentage mean anything for the Defensive player of the week?

Great point... If there isn't a Libero of the Week category then perhaps the Defensive PoW should be limited to defensive stats only? Blocks should count but at what value compared to digs? Perhaps every 2.5 blocks would equal 1 dig or something like that so that DS' have an opportunity to be considered as well. This really would not upset the apple cart too much because the front row players will still have the advantage because besides the blocks they will still have dig opportunities. Who knows maybe it works like this already but if it does the ratio is probably something crazy like 5:1 (block value compared to dig value)

I have always known lauren cook was a great volleyball player, but man did she play awesome in the ucla game. I don't think Nebraska would be nearly as good without her. SHe is the brain power and defensive power keeping that team together. I'm glad she won the award this week, definitely deserved it this week.

Now that they introduced the setter and defensive categories, I wish they would change the Player of the Week to the Offensive Player of the Week. 99% of the time the POW is an offensive player. Has it ever been a libero? Keeping it as POW discounts the efforts of the libero and setter by saying that the overall best player is the offensive player.
The only objection I can think of is if a front row player has a very well-rounded game with kills, digs, blocks, and aces, but the player is still primarily an offensive player, so it still applies.

That is an awful lot of accolades for a team that hit .207.

That is an awful lot of accolades for a team that hit .207. You are aware that this is POW not player of match? You should also note, Nebraska didnt win any offensive awards. You should also notice these are individual not team awards. these awards usually go to a player on a team that had a significant week. The UCLA/Nebraska match was this weeks marquee matchup. It is no real surprise that the POW award went to the best player on a team that beat the #1 ranked team in the country, in a match that was carried by the Big 10 Network. Not seeing that is how it should be, but rather thats how it is. Nor is it a surprise the best setter award went to the conferences best setter. Who would you have voted for setter of the week? POW?

That is an awful lot of accolades for a team that hit .207. The UCLA match was just one match they played that week. Nebraska hit .365 and boat-raced a Notre Dame team that took a set off UCLA.

To hskrpower, before you anoint her player of the century, here are some facts. Hancock--15 kills, Cook--7. Assists, Hancock 11 average per set, Cook, 10.73. Hitting average, Hancock .556, Cook 400. Last but not least Hancock led Penn State to a .345 team average, Cook .264.
My purpose in showing this comparison is not to diminish Cook's efforts nor to glorify Hancocks. Also keep in mind, UCLA had 15 blocks. All in all, it was a good win for Nebraska but not earth shattering.
