What About the outside Island Girls? Maui? Big Island? Molokai? Kaui? Dave has two from Maui County, I think the outer islands girls have a lot of potential. I do understand political and who you know rules but these girls work very hard and really looks forward to playing for Hawaii! No offense but there is no one on Maui and Moloka`i for that matter, that can compete at that level at this time...unless you know someone that you think could compete for the Wahine...the only one with slight potential is Sienna Davis from Kamehameha-Maui who graduates this school year...so going by the title of the thread there is no one in the Class of 2014 that will be able to compete at that level...the MIL is in a rebuilding phase and the talent level is not that high at the current time... Really you need to be real the talent level is just not that high to compete at the top Division I level...I don't believe there are any politics involved in this, it is just if you don't have the game to play for the Wahine or at that level you won't...Maui girls just aren't at that level...Maui was just fortunate to have Ginger and Kalei playing in the MIL at the same time...how often have you seen a girl from Maui on the Wahine roster and for that matter contribute? It has nothing to do with politics its just the level of play on Maui is far behind the play of the girls on O`ahu...not saying there isn't talent on Maui, but not at the level of competing at the top Divison I level...for that matter how often have you seen a girl from the MIL playing at a top DI program? The last I could remember was Leahi Hall at Stanford from 2001-2004. non taken, just saying if a lot of these girls played for Punahou, KSK, or other oahu schools they would deffenetly make div 1 and not because of talent but because where they are, talent wise they are pretty close to Oahu Girls individual skills. There is a lot of clubs popping up now and talent from younger kids are surly to compete in the coming years, I cant wait. Oh and Sienna Davis is an awesome ALL around player, (even set this past year for her club) but again because we are here and not THERE she will have a very hard time getting noticed.

Dave should invest more time into recruiting international players. His percentage of getting a top recruit is slim to none. The last top recruit (off-island) Dave got was Kim Willoughby which was TWELVE YEARS AGO. He's had success recruiting internationally before. Ljungquist, Fransson,, Cincerova come to mind.

Um...I don't think Kim was the top recruit her year, but she definitly turned into the top player in college her last two years (although she won POY her senior year only). Danielson was #5 and Croson was #7. Rarely, does Hawaii have two top 10 recruits in the same year (last season being a rare). But that's one year. The thing with Shoji is he coaches these athletes into very good volleyball players. Kaufman, Hewitt, Hartong didn't come in ranked within the top 20, but earned AA by the time they left. With that said though, it takes one-two years before that happens and by then, the likes of Stanford, Texas, Penn St., USC have all Top 10 players on their roster. So Hawaii simply has a hard time keeping up with them. For a team that rarely gets a top 10 recruit, Dave and his staff does an excellent job of staying in the top 10 yearly. I don't think any other program can say that.

Ljungquist, Fransson,, Cincerova come to mind. I think, had she not been injured and not been moved to the OH position her sophmore year, Gustin would have become a very dominant MB for Hawaii.

Because I don't think Kim Willoughby was the No. 1 recruit her freshman year. As mentioned, Jane Croson was among the nation's top recruits. Susie Boogaard was the No. 10 recruit in the country in 2002.

I think Willoughby was the highest profile recruit in the last 20-odd years (I think she came in at #5). Has Hawaii ever pulled in a #1 recruit? Just curious. I don't know where a Teee Williams or Dietre Collins would have been rated.

I think Jane, Kanani and Kanoe were ranked higher than Willoughby. I think Kim was just outside of 10, and if I'm not mistaken all three of the pre-mentioned were top 10. I'm getting old, could be wrong.

Kanani was a #5 recruit from Prep Volleyball.
Regarding Saleaumua, I'm not sure what happened, as I've heard that UH pulled the schollie set aside for her.

I could be wrong.

... and Nebraska recently picked up a player because she could meet standards there but couldn't at Wisconsin.
