I figured we might as well get this thread going as opposed to adding to the 2013 one.
With the tournament reportedly expanding to 10 teams, does this eliminate the play-in game? Do 1 & 2 get byes while 3-10 play each other? Is there now two play-in games with 7-10 and 8-9?
Who are the front runners for 2014? Here's the final poll from 2013:
1 Springfield (16) 2 Nazareth 3 Baruch 4 UC Santa Cruz 5 Juniata 6 Rivier T-7 Carthage T-7 Stevens 9 SUNY New Paltz 10 Stevenson 11 Kean 12 Vassar 13 NYU 14 MIT 15 Medaille

Top 4 for 2014 New Paltz - Return everyone and add some good ones. Juniata - If they can pass, they can run the table. Naz - Everyone will look like less of a player without Wells-Spicer, but Zyburt, Levemore and Lawatch are too much to ignore. Stevens - Will be as good as this year, and hopefully with maturity comes consistency.
Others worth mentioning -Springfield will be deep but will be lacking the "special" player -Carthage returns a lot but if they are playing Lakeland and Dominican 2x each, who aren't they playing this year? And what do they lose with 4 fewer tough matches? They had some head scratchers this year and without the same prep work they've had, I have to wonder what happens. -Stevenson - made huge strides this year with a new coach and they return most of their weapons. I think they'll move forward but none of these guys have been in this situation before and are they physical enough to play at that high level every match?

Will also be interesting to see how both Baruch and Kean do under new leadership. Any timeline for hires with those positions/any names floating around in consideration?

There will be a few changes in the first seat across the landscape. CCNY, Kean, Baruch plus a host of new programs (Lakeland, Dominican, Marymount, etc) That could be the biggest change to 2013 as recruiting will get a little tougher for many as more programs come aboard.
Teams that will be in good shape heading into 2014 Carthage - Great setter good pieces Springfield - Setter in place with good wings and VERY good coach Juniata - Setter seems to be settled and they have should have weapons

What does anyone know about those new programs?? Will they be competitive? How will they hurt the CVC strength of schedule for the stronger teams in the conference?

Baruch graduates one full time starter in joksimovic and a few others who split time most of the year chave L Rivera OH and Elias OH so they return most of their core and a strong one at that....tems to drop off...Springfield might as weird as that is...we are now out of the falcone era also they lose pelettier and every right side that has played in the last 4 years and Becker who when his serve was in was the hardest serving player in d3 they will still be. Top 5 if not top 3 I don't see them dominating as much as they did this year

Falcone era may end, but the Angel Perez era wont be too shabby either. I hope we already did not forget how good he was as a freshman because he had to take the year off. Not to mention a setter who has won 2 straight National Championships in dominating fassion and Vega, Ferry, and Oleary?
They are still the favorite in my eyes but yes it will be more competitive with Falcone gone the Outsides will see much more attention on them that he had to take on over 4 years. But Sullivan's program has withstood the test of time with great players leaving before, and I see them being the top gun once again next season.

Are they taking Angel with them or going without him? Also, why pick a D3 school? Are D1's not willing or are not allowed to go because of NCAA rulings or is this the honor for taking home the Championship?

this offer ws presented to several schools throughout the eyar. carthage baruch and new paltz all declined because the cost of attending this tournament was left to the teams and athletes themselves... springfield college's president decided to cover the cost for their team through college funding so they could send there team

Angel is a great player and it will be interesting to see how he comes back after a very serious injury to his acl if he is 100 percent I agree he will dominate most teams he is an outstanding player but if it is affecting his ability to jump I foresee many many clamps

This will be an interesting year to watch, most teams are losing a lot of good talent, unfortunately i think naz is losing the most in a POTY and an outstanding AA middle in craft. think they will be able to bounce back?
also angel can carry that team, however watching him late in the season last year I noticed the only 'shakey' part about his game is his blocking and without falcone to help close that block that opens up a lot out of the rightside.
carthage is returning their entire lineup as they have no seniors so hopefully they cant figure out what happened last year and work out those bugs.
Is Juniata losing anyone else except Ross? i am fuzzy on the seniors on that team so i am unsure about how they are going to do next year.
Vassar looked great last year but again I am unsure about the number of seniors they are losing on that team-i am pretty sure they are losing a setter and a libero-will be interesting to see how they cope....
thoughts?

Varsity blues - Vassar loses 5 starters including S and both MH. The Brewers will be in the mix at 5-9 in the UVC again. Naz should be ok if they can have good setting.

I heard a rumor that the AD's of the United Volleyball Conference voted unanimously to allow MIT into the conference. Not sure when it will be official or when they will officially compete in the UVC.
The UVC just got tougher.
