Enjoy this recruiting year...the PERFECT STORM IS COMING TO WVB IN 2014! GO LIONS! !!!! The only one that will probably start is Washington. The others are going to have a hard time beating out the upperclassmen. I think you underestimate how good this class is. Coaches around the country say it is the best class ever assembled: Frantti, Lee, Weiskircher, Washington, Thelen, Reed, Pierce. Five top ten recruits potentially. I think several of them have a great shot to step in immediately and contribute, especially since several of them are enrolling this winter. The only starters remaining in 2014 will be Hancock, Grant, Courtney, and Gonzalez (not counting Prieto and Whitney). This class hasn't even started their senior years yet. Washington is not the only kid who'll start.

For once, Penn State is not ranked in the Top Recruiting Class rankings for the year -- which, you know, is what this thread concerns. So, by all means, let's make it all about Penn State.

Courtney, Prieto, and Whitney will be the pin hitters and Lee/Frantti/Thelen/Reed are not ready to beat them out. And you know damn well Rose isn't going to start Weiskircher over a senior Hancock.

But I'm sure you haven't seen them play recently. And Stanford's class? No one even comes close to the potential that Lee, Frantti, or Weiskircher have.

Actually the other 4 may have a higher ceiling than the 3 you mentioned. It sure will be fun to watch though.

Not recently but I've seen them play a number of times this year and they're not nearly as good as you're making them out to be. And your second comment is absolutely ridiculous. Lee and Frantti don't have nearly the amount of potential Howard and Burgess have. Bugg is going to be in discussion with Carlini as one of the 2 best setters in the country next season. You seriously need to take the PSU-colored goggles off. This reminds me a lot about that time a few months ago when you assured all of us that Whitney was going to be a 1st Team AA in 2013/was a better attacker than Scott and quickly retracted your statement a few weeks later.

Could you guys please start a Recruiting Classes of 2014 thread, so this conversation would actually be germane to its thread?

In my opinion, the big guns this year will be PSU, Stanford, Texas and USC. All will be tough to beat, of course Texas will have the weaker conference schedule but has a HUGE pre season set up to keep them up in the rankings if Elliott doesn't use that retarded 6:2. But I love when teams like last seasons Michigan come in and rain on someone's parade, hell they almost rained on ours. But because we didn't storm through every match last season we were able to fight to take a very great Michigan team down in 5. This year there will be a whole bunch of teams like Michigan but just IMO the top teams will be PSU , Stanford, Texas and USC. Just thoughts though, season still a long way away and as well all know, you never know what will happen. Good luck to everyone and I hope this summer is a great one for all schools!

What the heck kind of post was that? Fair, optimistic, generous and kind. I don't know what to think. I am sure, though, that there's no place for that kind of thing on VolleyTalk. You're gonna have to do much better than that in the future. And welcome to Volleytalk, by the way.

I make a concerted effort to not hang around volleytalk during the off season that often, and the Penn State faithful have gone even further off the deep end.... And Stanford's class? No one even comes close to the potential that Lee, Frantti, or Weiskircher have. Oh please....And what, exactly, is your basis for saying such an outlandish comment? Stanford brought in, by far the consensus #1 recruiting class this year and WON the Pac-12 title largely starting 4 of those freshmen! Regardless of the post season failure, winning THAT many matches against quality opponents is a marvel achievement. There is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING other than your stupid Russ Rose colored PSU glasses to suggest that none of the Stanford recruits "even come close to the potential" of X,Y,Z future PSU recruits. Perhaps if these PSU players were, right now, challenging for spots on the national traveling team then I'd say you have a point, but, as we all know, they aren't, and you don't have a point. I think you underestimate how good this class is. Coaches around the country say it is the best class ever assembled: Frantti, Lee, Weiskircher, Washington, Thelen, Reed, Pierce. Which coaches are saying it's the best class ever? sources please..... Chis...I sure hope youre rite. Nothin like quality depth, competition & RS opportunities! RR & staff will get the cream to rise to the top..as it should! Courtney & Prietos talent & leadership upside go through the Rec Hall rafters! So, 2014 should be PERFECT! GO LIONS! !!!! Firstly, welcome to volleytalk....secondly, who is this clown? "Courtney and Prietos talent and leadership upside go through the Rec Hall rafters!"...really? what leadership has Courtney displayed on the court to lead you to say such a statement? Prieto hasn't even touched a ball against a D-1 team, so again, what has she shown that leads you to say that her leadership and talent upside are "through the Rec Hall rafters!"? I will be the first to say that PSU is continuing to recruit well, but some of these comments by the PSU faithful are just plain stupid. The fact is that volleyball has more and more parity in large part because the difference in talent level of recruits is minimizing. It used to be that landing a some top 10 recruits put a team in firm position to take home hardware. Not anymore...nowadays a random top 10 player is not excessively superior to a player in the 20's or 30's, and this increase in talent level will only expand. A variety of factors plays into why teams win, it's not always about percieved potential. It's finding the right players to execute at the right time. Having top players doesn't always mean they are the RIGHT players. It's all about finding the right players for the right systems to have true success, not about the "potential".

Other than the usual suspects in the top 30, did anyone see any surprises in the high HM and HMs? I am hoping for some movement from the various teams. I would love to see a more competitive field and some upsets during the next season. Just curious on everyone's thoughts about some of other conferences.

No one in Stanford's 2012 class is athletic as any of the kids in Penn State's 2014 class. Much higher ceiling for Lee, Frantti, Weiskircher, Reed, Washington. Disagree all you want. The athletic potential there is the reason they'll be the number one class.

This reminds me a lot about that time a few months ago when you assured all of us that Whitney was going to be a 1st Team AA in 2013/was a better attacker than Scott and quickly retracted your statement a few weeks later. Whitney is very, very good offensively and has a First-Team All-American arm. I'm not the only one who's said that. Those who've seen her practice last spring or this past season have said that. Even Russ Rose has said how good her offensive skills are. I don't recall retracting my statement. I recall being unsure about what will happen with the lineup, but I don't recall retracting my views about Whitney's attacking ability. And you can't call my second statement "absolutely ridiculous" just to counter with the exact opposite statement. You provide no details yourself. We can agree to disagree. I think the athleticism and talent in PSU's 2014 class gives them more potential than Bugg, Burgess, or Howard. And, Fusion 17 Black beat Carlini's team in power league this season. I know you claim to have seen them a "number of times" but, evidently, you're very difficult to impress. Forgive me if I don't seem to care.
