Will Fricano be a contender on the outside next year? Is she that good? She is 6'4" with serious jumping ability and will have had a year in the program to develop by then. I can't imagine her not getting an opportunity.

I have no inside information, but I would be surprised if Bates is a scholarship player. She signed an NLI. That means she has a scholarship.

I can't imagine her not getting an opportunity. I understand she has height and jumping ability. But there are 3 hitter positions she could play (she's listed as RS/OH), and there will be 7 players competing for them: Bates, Chapman, Fricano, Graff, Mikaelsen, Morales, Thomas. Where do you see Fricano fitting in? And before anyone says it, yes, Morales. I think she's earned the benefit of the doubt in Kelly's mind, and that someone will have to come in and win that L2 spot from her. And I believe she will not give it up without a fight.

There is at least one spot open for 2015. If you are a top recruit, don't wait, call Kelly Sheffield and reserve it now! Apparently, she did! With all the seniors on the roster, Sheffield is going to have to be playing Blake, Fricano, Bates in at least some capacity in 2014 so he has some experience going into 2015.

I can't imagine her not getting an opportunity. I don't know about "serious jumping ability" and I also think she's closer to 6'3". She's a good player though and puts up a huge block. I think Chapman, Thomas, and Bates will be the starting pin hitters for next season though.

The question is whether Bates, Fricano, or Graff will be more effective than Deme. I think we have to keep Thomas on the court in some capacity. She proved invaluable this year in handling sets when LC had the first touch. However, with Mikaelsen coming back, does she play on the right and Thomas moves to the left? Then in that case we have Bates, Chapman, Fricano, Graff, and Morales competing for one OH spot (Thomas has the other), and Mikaelsen playing opposite. Maybe Mikaelsen plays RS and Morales subs for her in the back row?

I really, really, really hope Graff takes a medical hardship and sticks around through 2015. That's five freshmen we'll have in 2015. Do you think that Sheffield will redshirt one of them in an attempt to restore balance to the force?

I could have sworn they had another commit for 2014? They did have another 2014. Beams was let go and committed to Miami-OH

I could have sworn they had another commit for 2014? They did have another 2014. Beams was let go and committed to Miami-OH They originally had two that Pete recruited: Courtney Bemis and Kylee Zumach. With the coaching change, Bemis is now going to Miami-OH and Zumach to K-State. Sheff brought in Bates* to fill one of those slots. Then Mikaelsen's foot fracture and subsequent medical hardship left us with only one scholarship for 2014. Things have a way of working out. *Bates was previously verballed to Dayton.

That's right, Courtney Bemis.
