She's injured and has been for a while.

This is a preliminary roster, and almost everyone in the USA gym is listed on it. Hodge doesn't need to go to WGP this year.
A final roster will be submitted later in July.

I was thinking it must be preliminary. I see Nicole Davis, Tama Miyashiro and Kayla Banwarth all listed, and I'd be very surprised if three DS/libero players made the trip. The club names are interesting. What does it mean that a player is listed only for USA Women's Volleyball Team? Where is Toyota Auto Body Queenseis? [Answer: Japan. Thank you Wikipedia.] And what have our players been doing in wherever-they-went?

If a players is only listed for USA Women's Volleyball Team that means they have yet to play professionally, or information on their most recent club team was unavailable when they put the roster together.

Is it a surprise that Hodge did not make the team?

Is it a surprise that Hodge did not make the team? It's not that she didn't make the team. Karch is looking to try-out other players this season and is allowing Hodge to rest from competition. This years WGP doesn't mean much in terms of preparation for a major event (like WChamps or WCup in the next two years).

I'm a little worried about this roster, or maybe it's just me. So used to having Tom, Larson, Hooker, Akinradewo, and Berg there. Wish these girls all the best!

I know someone made a comment about Shankzilla ... but it will be interesting to see how this crop of outside hitters are able to pass (Hildebrand I think is the most solid of the bunch, Lichtman is good, but she worries me in terms of whether or not she can also terminate). I know that although Faucette played club, she was for the most part a non-passing outside hitter. Not sure about Newcombe and Hill is new. Wonder why Tarrah Murrey is not on the list or did not try out (as she is one that also had international club experience this last season).

Actually like Tarrah Murray there are other players who I thought would be invited to join and train with the national team this year. MB - Ashley Benson, OHs - Becky Perry, Rachel Kidder, Coleen Ward, Kanani Danielson, OPPs - Blair Brown, Whitney Dosty just to name a few.

Blair Brown declined to join, and as I've said before I don't think she would have made a significant impact anyway. Kanani is a head-scratcher, I admit.

I know you submit an overly large pool of players, then can take any combination each week. There are 22 here; might cut back to 19 but I suspect this is the final pool. Interesting that the only two setters are Glass and Thompson, unless Murphy is being tried.
The first weeks schedule is brutal; in Brazil, playing Brazil, Russia and Poland. Almost guarantees at least one won't get to the Finals.
Can't remember under what circumstances you can take 14, so assuming 12 will go.

The roster of 14 can be changed after each leg.
