I liked my school experiences a lot. I think movies and some novels always portray school as the worst frikkin' experience ever and that's not true for everyone, regardless of your popularity. I was not the "cool" kid or belonged to the "coolest" cliques, but I generally had a lot of fun, learned a lot, wasn't picked on by anyone, was treated with respect and kindness, and did extremely well. Also, I watched a lot of TV and skinned my knees a lot. Maybe writers don't find my kind of experience interesting so they tend to write about those kids filled with anxieties or those who suffered some horrific thing, e.g., rape, school shooting, domestic abuse. Who knows? Looking back at my education days....Junior High was the worst for me. I wasn't the most athletic kid around. The only sport I was remotely good at was volleyball. I wore thick glasses. I liked some academic subjects. I got good grades in social sciences but was branded a nerd. Kind of weird since I wasn't a straight A student in that I got terrible grades in drama classes. I felt awkward and self-conscious. Senior High was a bit better as I felt more self-confident and learned to be less concerned with how other people judged me. College undergraduate days were the best. I studied what I enjoyed and was good at. I enjoyed the freedom of the campus life. I suppose looking back in those college days there is an unavoidable tinge of nostalgia. Those weren't exactly carefree days to be honest, since I had to be disciplined in completing a heavy homework load and course assignments and still have time to play volleyball. But at the same time, I didn't have the stress and responsibility to put food on the table and care for my family like now. I didn't have to worried about going unemployed. Or paying mortgages or taxes. I got to meet new friends and I had an overall great time. Ah, it was different then.

I think it was the coonskin hat I wore that caused most of my problems.

The only thing that caused me any form of anxiety was a case of out-of-control dandruff. I would have to wash my hair every day with a special shampoo. And, every morning before school, I had to also use some sort of oil on my scalp, which made me look like one of those "greasers" from the 1950s and 1960s. This was only for a year during the early onset of puberty. Funny thing is, I thought it would be the death of me but no one noticed. No one made fun of me. I think my friends thought I was going through a hair style phase. In fact, a few years after high school, I met up with some female friends from 8th grade and asked them about it and they didn't know I had dandruff. They thought I had the coolest hair. LOL!

Watching “Mamma Mia!” now. Not sure what to make of it. Maybe that I’m taking the time to write about it while watching the movies says a lot.
OK, it is a fun movie but I just couldn’t handle the old cast singing. Youngens sounded nice, but my God...Pierce has some issues with singing. Better than me, for sure, but I would have edited in a voiceover for his songs.

Just watched Captain Marvel. Very good, another fine addition to the line of Marvel movies, though it was a bit odd to see Samuel Jackson’s Fury be more of a comic relief rather than the serious head of the Avenger Initiative.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
Love this movie, better than the first. But it’s hard to love this without having watched the first, if that makes any sense. It’s actually a tear jerker.
Great to see Benny Andersen make a cameo appearance.

Just watched Black Swan (2010). It was brilliant. Portman was amazing and deserved the accolades that she got for this movie!

The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2
The Denzel Washington flicks. The first got mixed reviews while the second got awful reviews. I personally liked them. While the story and character development and themes were uninspiring or nonexistent, the action sequences were great and well-designed. Yeah, they're one-dimensional movies, but I have a soft spot for vigilante movies where the protagonist goes out and seeks justice on his own. I like good action sequences, too. Not always. I have to be in the mood.
So, I saw the first one a couple years ago. Liked it. I saw the sequel this afternoon in 30-minute increments. Liked it. Very brutal hand-to-hand combat scenes. I like these in video games, too.

Just watched Black Swan (2010). It was brilliant. Portman was amazing and deserved the accolades that she got for this movie! When Portman won the Oscar, there was some outrage because she only did a small fraction of the ballet scenes. They just digitally "pasted" Portman's face onto the real dancer's body in the medium to long shots. I remember this happening back then and reading a couple articles about it.

Looking forward to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The first one in 2014 was alright (better than the 98 version at least), although it didn't have enough Godzilla action. The new teaser just released suggests more monster action:

I watched Free Solo last night. As someone somewhat afraid of heights, boggles my mind how anyone could do stuff like this. My son got a virtual reality thing (not sure of the correct name) with his new phone. One of the programs had this guy with a camera strapped to him while he did this climb. I coildnt watch more than 30 seconds. Got nauseous.

I watched the Netflix movie about climbing The Dawn Wall. No idea it was a true story and was blown away by the story of these men.

Yeah I remember that I think it's because they campaigned it by saying she did most of the dance which she didn't so I totally understand the point of view of the real dancer. She won for her acting though which was brilliant.
