Thought this was going to be a reboot, not a continuation. But then again, that was the gist of it all in the OT. Everything goes in cycles.

Mad Max Fury Road
Another example of unreliable memory. I watched this movie a few years ago and I decided to watch it again today. Boy! It seemed like a brand new movie to me. Nothing from my memory matched what I saw today.
Here's my memory of the plot:
Max escapes from a camp in a big rig. He's chased by a bunch of those bandits w/ human "body bags." They have a loooooooong road battle. Back at the camp, the main boss is informed that his bandits are not getting it done. Angry, the main boss hires assassin Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, to catch Max. She drives her vehicle in pursuit. When she reaches Max, she "turns" and saves him from the other road bandits because she needs his help to overthrow the main boss. They talk about it and plan. Then, the two of them meet some female gang and persuade them to fight for their cause. So, they all drive back to duke it out at the main camp.
The actual plot from the movie bears no resemblance to the above description of my memory of the plot.

The actual plot from the movie bears no resemblance to the above description of my memory of the plot. LOL, no it doesn't! Here's how I remember it [this is strictly from memory]: Max is captured by these bandit dudes. He is being used as a "blood bag" for some of them who (maybe because of radiation?) apparently need transfusions. Furiousa is a trusted and privileged member of this society. However, she secretly arranges for the "wives" of the leader to escape with her. She's supposed to be making some kind of supply run in a big truck, but she takes a detour and tries to escape to the place where she was captured from as a girl. The "boys" are sent out to chase her down. One of them needs blood, so he straps Max to his car. Somehow or another Max ends up both free and with Furiousa. She needs him for some reason that I can't remember, so she basically allows him to join her escape. Somehow also the "boy" that was using Max's blood also ends up switching sides and becoming sympathetic to the "wives". They reach the place Furiousa was trying to get to, but they find it's no longer the paradise she remembers. It's basically dying. There are only a few old women left alive (including her mother?). Max convinces her that their only chance of survival is back where they came from, because it has water. So they do the whole fight/drive again in reverse. The "boy" who switched sides gets to die gloriously in battle, which is what he has always wanted, although he's fighting against his old crew. They manage to get back to the place where they started and take it over, and they release the horded water to the desperate people below. (I don't remember for sure, but probably Max leaves after that? That would be in keeping with the "lone wandering hero" aspect of his character.)

Thought this was going to be a reboot, not a continuation. But then again, that was the gist of it all in the OT. Everything goes in cycles. I personally thought a Matrix reboot would be a bad idea at this point, although it is true the sequels weren't impressive either. Still, I heard the new Matrix sequel will involve David Mitchell as one of the writers, that at least is a little promising. Mitchell is the author of the acclaimed sci-fi bestseller Cloud Atlas, which involved multiple stories spanning different times and linked together in a very original way. I loved the book, the movie adaptation of the novel had a more mixed reception but I still liked it. I hope he can bring something original and interesting to the Matrix sequel.

Saw the movie Blinded by the Light on Friday. I highly recommend it. Good story line and usage of Bruce Springsteen's music. Same director that did Bend it Like Beckham.

Anthropoid
Was this film any good? It had marginally good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (66 critics/70 audience).

Watched BlacKkKlansman, entertaining, but didn’t think it was Oscar material. You have the anti-Trump rhetorics, Black Power movements and yet John David Washington’s character Ron Stallworth brings some sanity to the mayhem of the 70’s.
Oh, and Topher Grace as David Duke was a stretch. That 70’s Show kind of typecast Topher for me.

He'll always be Venom, unfortunately.
(Sam Raimi is/was a hack.)

Hey, dudes, list some Can't-Miss films of 2019. I haven't seen any. Waiting for the DVD releases. I'll watch them and if I don't like them, I'll just blame you. Hope that's okay.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, maybe, even though I have problems with it. I'll probably see the re-issue with the new scenes. Hmmm. Turns out I haven't really been going to movies this year. That probably has something to do with not remembering any really good ones.

Watched three movies on the long flight before falling asleep:
John Wick 3: AWESOME! Non-stop action from the get go with some humor blended in...like the Japanese assassins who felt privileged fighting John Wick. The best part is the potential for John Wick 4...we’ll, not really a potential because if they don’t do one then they’re a bunch of weenies.
X-Men Dark Phoenix: ok, I don’t know the full story about the Dark Phoenix but I thought this wasn’t as bad as the reviews I have read. Better story than the original X-Men trilogy’s rendition of the Dark Phoenix.
Pikachu Pokémon Detective: loved it! This may be a one and done but I sure hope not!
