She's definitely scholarship recruit. If you follow the international game, she's been talked about for a while as a great young player. Texas finally recruits a desperately needed utility pin that can potentially pass and floor defend at a high level, and the innuendo is that a scholarship shouldn't be used? Sounds like you're the one making "innuendos" based on one poster's question and assumption as to Melanie's scholarship status.
While I believe she was offered a scholarship for 2020, not sure your comment that "she's definitely scholarship recruit" is infallible.
Huskerjen, apologies that's all l have to say.

I don't have any insider information, but Dilfer's family moved from CA to Austin. If TCU allowed her to transfer in conference, Texas could possibly be a landing spot. She is still currently enrolled at TCU, so we might not know until the school year is over.

what prompted the move? was someone else going to take over as the starting setter?

Thanks for the update! Sorry, guess I was way off. Looks like most of her former teammates congratulated her, so doesn't seem like there's any bad blood.
Not sure if she'll be taking over, but TCU signed a 2019 setter, McKenzie Nichols, who was #34 on the Senior Aces list.

Some post-season accolades for Naomi Cabello:

Interesting nugget in the short description of her achievements: Buzz: Cabello, a Texas commit, was key in East Ridge’s undefeated regular season. She led the Knights in assists (470) and kills (192).

Melanie Parra is definitely slight of build, and shorter than 6'0. But, she is barely 16 years old; not sure if her physique will change much by the time she arrives in Austin in less than 2 years. Still, for someone so young, she has some really good skills. This describes like, 3 of Brazil's NT pin hitters and they'd all start on any NCAA team in the country. I'm SO tired of this idea that you need to be > 6'2" in order to be successful in the front row. Take a look at Brazil's NT. Gabi is all of 5'9' and at one point, people were calling her the future of Brazilian volleyball (which I disagree with, but my point is still the same). Tandara is an even 6 feet and is one of the best opposites in the world. Fe Garay is 5'10" and was MVP of the Brazilian League this year (which included players like Hooker, Kosheleva, and Fawcette, who was also on her team)). Amanda, Monique, Pri Daroit, Drussyla, etc. are all also less than 6 feet tall and would also start on any NCAA team in the country. If you're good, you're good. I'd take someone like Parra on the pin before an arguably more "athletic" player (like Agbaji, for instance) any day. And don't even get me started on "short" setters, especially with you Texas fans.

Anyone know anything about Averi Carlson’s recruitment? Is she on Texas’ radar or vice versa? All-State running a 5-1 as a freshman and over 6’ seems like a pretty good player.

She led Lovejoy to the state championship match and is the national max preps freshman of the year I believe.

Guessing we're targeting one Libero for a scholarship in 2022 as Sydney will have finished her time at Texas:

Not to chum the waters too much, but a volleyball parent who has put two daughters through high level of club volleyball has told me that liberos rarely get a scholarship. I'm not saying ALL liberos don't get scholarships, but fewer than you would assume. I remember learning, once I started really watching UT volleyball fulltime, that Sydney Yogi was a walk-on. The papers would say, "And walk-on Sydney Yogi......" and I kept thinking, "but she's our starting libero. Whaaa?" This is before my friend (who is a VP at a major company and also has her MBA - and knows how to suss out the way things work) informed me about the pecking order of players and scholarships...mostly as it relates to UT, anyway.
Just, from my perspective.

Makes sense.
From my perspective and assumptions, Texas typically only allots one scholarship for a backrow player at any one time. So, whether it was Sarah Palmer, Cat McCoy, or Sydney Petersen, they were the only Libero on scholarship during their 4 years at Texas. Others like Kat, Autumn, or Clair were never the scholarship Libero, but a walk-on DS. I can't remember if Yogi was ever the starting Libero, or a DS.
Things might be changing. With Petersen being the starting Libero come 2019 (and possibly through 2021), we are brining in Nalani Iosia in 2020. Just my speculation, but I believe she will be a 4-year scholarship player even if she doesn't win the starting Libero spot until 2022.

Throwing a beacon out to anyone, but has anyone heard of any potential recruits we could get? It’s been quiet since Parra who I think is a 2021 recruit but idk... like does anyone have any idea of who we’re going after?

Texas going to Hawaii March 22. Spring schedule posted. Dang It. We'll be at the islands for Spring Break and leaving that day. Oh well, they'll be playing in Oahu and we'll be leaving out of Kauai.
