Can't wait to see her at Texas.

She’ll be the new Amy Neal I feel! Very smart shots against the worlds best! While I loved all Amy Neal did at Texas, it took her a couple of years to find her way onto the court (mainly due to confidence). Melanie's international experience against very seasoned players will benefit her greatly once she gets to Texas; assuming she adjusts well to American collegiate life, I think her skill set will get her on the court early and often.

Parra will be such a good player for Texas. Don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s no secret that Texas doesn’t consistently have good passing 6 rotation players. She is an elite passer at the international level. She could be the best passer on the team as a freshman. She’s already seeing tougher serves and playing defense against a faster paced offense. Speed won’t be an adjustment for her in college like it is for many freshman in college

I am excited to see Parra, despite her size, she'll bring in a lot of stability to the passing. She also has a great serve. Hopefully, she gets a little growth spurt before she arrives...

I think we are all overhyping Parra. Like how we've overhyped Sun, Shook, etc.

Add Fields to that list as well.

To each their own. I guess an incoming player is either "overhyped" or "underhyped". Name some players who have been "hyped" the exact right amount.

Texas could recruit a rock and y’all would think the rock is the second coming of hooker lol
Just kidding. But in all seriousness, Itll be hard for her to find the floor with the way Texas recruits.

I think we are all overhyping Parra. Like how we've overhyped Sun, Shook, etc. I think she’s appropriately hyped considering there’s ample video of her playing well at an international level. I think what gets the girls coming from high school with PrepVolleyball hype is that you have to guess at their transition period, and it doesn’t always pan out. With Parra, we can be more confident about what we’ll get.

I think there’s a good chance she cracks the lineup. Williams is good but lacks in the serve receive department. Fields does as well. Perhaps she could even be used in a DS role

If you see those international plays, she's going up against smaller blocks/setters from countries that are rather shorter. She has a high IQ but again, a lot of people said shook and sun were gonna save texas and get nothing but underperformed freshmen season. I personally don't want to hype her too much. Pilar Victoria was the same as well. Lots of international experience and it didn't really help.

Agree with the statement above. There’s several ways for her to step into the lineup even if she is behind highly ranked recruits. She could play back row for one of the pins and give us a backrow attack option. Coach Elliott could pivot to a 6-2. She could be first or second off the bench, play backup to someone who is injured or not 100%, or she could step up and start right away or down the line. Point being, we’ve sat through this ‘she’ll never start the way Texas recruits big bangers’ before with several players, and they somehow make it onto the floor. Time will tell.

I would argue, though, that a lot of their struggles freshman year had to do with general mismanagement of that team. They both still have the chance to reach the gear they were hyped at, and both could have had much better freshman campaigns with different circumstances. Again, hindsight, but whatevs.

I think on a "recruiting" thread, being excited about incoming recruits is par for the course.
So much can change as far as the roster by the time the 2020 kids arrive on campus, especially with the new transfer portal. For Melanie, you add the element of an international player even showing up (outside of her country), or staying through the first year (like Katarina Luketic); or, does she even see herself staying all 4 years in college prior to a professional career?
I'm glad Coach Elliott is attempting to add international players to his roster. It is becoming tougher and tougher to stock 4 elite pin hitters on a roster as no one seems to want to be fourth in line (after the starting three).
And, for those clamoring for the 6-rotation OH, unless she can terminate consistently in the front row, there's no reason to play her over a 3-rotation hitter who can. In the collegiate game, based on the liberal substitutions allowed, you only need to play one pin hitter 6 rotations; if you have two who can serve, receive serve, pass and play defense better than your true DS (backrow player), then they've earned the opportunity to play all the way around. Once Micaya departs after this coming season, I'd say Logan Eggleston is next in line to play all 6 rotations; if Melanie does arrive in 2020 and can battle for that spot, then it's a win-win.
Come 2020, we'll have Nalani Iosia joining Sydney Petersen and anchoring the back row. We also add a local DS in Reilly Heinrich. So, things will come into focus better once we know for sure the player personnel on the 2020 roster.
