I guess Texas isn't getting anyone else except for those two top recruits.

I really hate commenting on particular players but I have to agree with what everyone is saying re: Shook. I'm sure she's an amazing student-athlete but I think this was one of the biggest misses in JE's recruiting career. Especially in a class that featured Sydney Hilley and Madison Lilley. I think a poster who mentioned her basics/mechanics was spot on. It's clear that's where the issue lies. Historically, even though the passing has been average-to-sub-par, we've always had consistency in the setter position, which has been crucial in the success of the team. A question re: Blair Westerlund. Now that she has medically redshirted, doesn't that free up a scholarship? I’m no Shook apologist (I frankly dont care), but it’s not like Shook was some late discovery and a project. She was a top 10 recruit (that’s dozens of coaches thinking she has the goods), USAV HP performer on the elite teams, Sports Performance (arguably the TOP club for producing quality setters) trained setter. If she has these really bad basic fundamentals people are talking about, plenty of people in the volleyball world didn’t seem to see that, or they simply did not care. I think the reality is that despite the hype she isn’t really working out much as a setter for Texas, and this is OK! Plenty of high profile prep setters don’t end up working out. Stanford had Humphrey’s, Nebraska had Atherton, Weiskercher at Penn State wasn’t anything to write home about for most of her tenure, UCLA and Miller etc. Recruits not working out for your team happens. To every program.

I think Parra should definitely take a ds spot freshman year at least. If they choose to put Williams in the front row, or move fields to the left, I think Parra should be backrow for the OH opposite of eggleston. And that would provide the bic if needed. I agree. Hopefully she’s putting some time in on weightlifting as well.

I guess we can start hearing from tomorrow who we’re getting for the 2021 class! I believe we only have 1 scholarship available! Super stoked to see who we’re getting. If it is just one open 'ship for the 2021 class, seems like taking a middle is the right move; but, who knows for sure? With MB Bre Kelley of Rockwall Heath having committed to Florida, that could mean that Jordyn Williams of Denton Guyer is who we are targeting:

* represents guesses that they are walk-ons
Theoretical 2019 1) Micaya White *) Jhenna Gabriel *) Claire Hahn 2) Asjia O'Neal 3) Sydney Peteresen 4) Ashley Shook 5) Brionne Butler *) Autumn Rounsaville 6) Blair Westerlund 7) Logan Eggleston 8) Orie Abagji
9) Molly Phillips 10) Skylar Fields 11) Riley Fisbeck 12) Katarina Luketic
-1) Luketic quit the team after Thanksgiving 2018 -2) Westerlund to medically retire
2020 1?) Jhenna Gabriel 2) Asjia O'Neal 3) Sydney Peteresen 4) Ashley Shook 5) Brionne Butler 6) Logan Eggleston 7) Molly Phillips 8) Skylar Fields 9 ) Naomi Cabello 10 ) Madison Williams 11 ) Nalani Iosia (Redondo 12?) Reilly Heinrich
? because the DS'es usually don't get scholarships.
These are just guesses on my part of who are walkon and who are scholarship - assuming 12 are allowed on D1. Just guesses. Anyone have better educated guesses?
I had to jot this down because there was talk about "1 scholarship left" AND the first page has no 2021 commits listed.
Para the only one?

Jordyn would be awesome! She’s both a MB and an OH. Has Sam Francis committed and/or Kami Miner? Are they for sure going to Stanford? Also how does it seem like Florida has more than 12 scholarships with their roster having 20 girls on it constantly...?

As far as I know, there is no roster limit in volleyball. It appears that Elliott likes keeping the roster in the 15-17 range. Some coaches like a bigger roster, especially if they use more role players.

I stopped at the 2013 Roster, and the highest number was 18, not 20. Maybe 6'7 and 6'8 counted for 2 each? rodbcantu, which website were you using? 2019 16 2018 16 2017 18 2016 18 2015 15 2014 17 2013 15

When we look at what the 2020 roster was "supposed" to look like prior to Jhenna Gabriel taking over the starting setter spot late in the 2018 season, and Katarina Luketic leaving the team in November (* denoting guesses as to non-scholarship players):
1) Jhenna Gabriel* 2) Asjia O'Neal 3) Sydney Peteresen 4) Ashley Shook 5) Brionne Butler 6) Logan Eggleston 7) Molly Phillips 8) Katarina Luketic 9) Skylar Fields 10) Naomi Cabello 11) Madison Williams 12) Nalani Iosia 13) Melanie Parra 14) Reilly Heinrich*
The plan seemed to have been to have 2 scholarship setters on the roster for 2020 in Shook (Sr.) and Cabello (Fr.). And, that would constitute needing to sign a setter for the 2021 class (which I think is bad "spacing" between setters in different classes). Well, all that probably changed based on how Gabriel and Shook played last season. I would think Gabriel has been awarded Luketic's scholarship for at least 2019; and, most likely two seasons after that.
Assuming Parra is part of the 2020 class, and, if we also assume Gabriel is on 'ship for the next 3 seasons, that leaves one spot open for 2021 (Shook the only senior).

So happy to see that North Dakota's Lauren Ware visited Texas officially; previously visited Nebraska.

SMH I mean I deleted it, I guess im just not used to seeing it, as I have never seen it happen in the volleyball world. They usually dont even say what schools they are considering. Again, my post was in poor taste. Should have kept it to myself.
