2018 Recruits: MB - Asjia O'Neal (Southlake, TX) L/DS - Sydney Petersen (IA) S - Jhenna Gabriel (Honolulu, HI) Asjia's signed...anyone hear about Petersen and Gabriel? Since I'm assuming Petersen and Gabriel are non-scholarship players, really no reason for them to sign LOIs. LOIs are only enforceable if the recruit is given a scholarship.

But for personal pride I thought there might be some sort of psuedo-signing or twitter announcement. A friend of mine's daughter "signed" to play for Div III UT Dallas and she had a "signing" ceremony at her school although D3 doesn't offer an athletic scholarship for volleyball.

This is true across all divisions. It is symbolic and just as meaningful to the athlete who is psuedo-signing.

Fingers crossed that we will bring in a serviceable pin hitter who can provide some needed depth; otherwise, we will have to survive 2018 with just three pin hitters. Maybe there will be an international addition, or grad transfer.

For the 2018-2019 season, I am counting 9 scholarship players (*) at this time.
Yaazie Bedart-Ghani β SR * Morgan Johnson - SR * Natalie Gilbert β SR Micaya White β RS/JR* Orie Agbaji β JR * Blair Westerlund β JR Claire Hahn - JR Autumn Rounsaville βJR Riley Fisbeck β JR* Ashley Shook β SO * Lexi Sun β SO * Olivia Zelon β SO Brionne Butler β RS/FR* Asjia OβNeal β FR * Sydney Peterson β FR Jhenna Gabriel β FR
I'm suspecting the incoming freshmen DS's will not be on scholarship or they would have had a formal signing ceremony at their respective school.
A pin hitter would be nice for some depth, but I'd rather Elliott save a scholarship for a transferring D1 Libero who can step in and immediately replace McCoy. Autumn, Claire, and Natalie are not up to par. We haven't seen Olivia play but if she were able to play at a high level, she would be seeing the court this season IMO. Jhenna is a setter who may need time to transition to a DS role and both she and Sydney will be trying to acclimate to the college game. I, personally, would like to see an experienced libero in the backcourt next year.

I could also see Orie possibly backing up the pin players next year if she decides to stick around. She looks comfortable swinging on the right pin from the times they've lined her up there during warm-ups. Plus, it might make things easier for her as she would just have to set the block, instead of transitioning pin-to-pin as a MB.

you guys have another 2020 coming your way soon Smith? I thought she was going out of state....I'm still a bit surprised Elliott couldn't keep that Houston Skyline 16's hitter from joining her sister in Kentucky. Landfair gets a lot of the hype in this 2020 class but there are some ATHLETES ready to bang the ball in this class. The younger Skinner is gonna be pretty good!

Another MB would be a smart guess.
Would be surprised if it's a pin hitter with 2019 Eggleston and Fields coming in.
Very glad we have Madison Williams for 2020 already.
