Everyone is accounted for.
No Utility player listed on the roster? :-)
Still surprised Elliott didn't put out any type of official release regarding Tiffany Baker transferring from Tennessee.

Can't wait until the first home game, got my season tickets and will be sitting 3 rows behind the bench. The Nike Big 4 will be the best matches all year and hope TEXAS can come out the weekend with an 5-0 record heading into Illinois.

I wonder why Pilar's height hasn't been posted? Were they having a hard time converting from metric units? lol

Wasn't Baker listed as 6'4 at Tennessee last season? I guess she shrunk an inch after her surgery! ;-)

Tonight's Longhorn Weekly on the LHN was dedicated to the upcoming volleyball season. The voice of the Longhorns, Craig Way, conducted interviews with Coach Elliott, Bailey Webster and Hayley Eckerman.
1st Segment - Interview with Elliott. Of interest was Elliott's comments about recruiting at the Sophomore, Freshman and 8th Grade Level. Talked about the added importance of not making a mistake. He also talked about working with different lineups early on and not worrying about early season losses as the goal it to be ready for a run during October and November. He also talked about the role of the captains in the program. The leadership council consists of the captains (Webster and Allison) and assistant captains (Eckerman only one mentioned).
2nd Segment - Interview with Elliott and Webster. Webster will be staring graduate work on her MBA. Very poised and excellent communication skills. She did say she plans to play overseas next year.
3rd Segment - Interview with Elliott and Eckerman. Of interest was Elliott's comment that he planned to increase the back row attack for Eckerman. Based on his comments, sounded like Texas will be running the 5-1 as he stated having the backrow attack for Eckerman was important since the front row setter only plays with the OH and Middle on the Front Row. He did say it's important to balance an increased back row attack with sets for Webster. Eckerman was happy about an increased role with the back row as being a 6 rotation player will help her prepare for overseas volleyball.
4th Segment - Interview with Webster and Eckerman. They were asked about the freshmen. Both said Chiaka Ogbogu (Chi) and Pilar Lopez were quiet and shy. Haven't had much interaction with them since they just arrived recently in Austin. Baker is very personable and said Collins' game has already developed a lot since enrolling early in January.
Of course there was more, but that's what I took from the show. It will be repeated at 9 pm and midnight and through out the week.
Excellent show.

Watched the Longhorn Weekly segment. Coach Elliott stated that "we are now in the position of having to redshirt some players because of depth".
I'm guessing it's more about letting injured players recuperate, but having the luxury of redshirtig them so as to not have to rush them back on the court too early due to having outstanding depth.

So who gets redshirted?

Nicole Dalton has a lot of great skills; I think she could redshirt if there are health issues. But, since she comes closest to filling Sha'Dare's vacated role, I don't think she redshirts due to depth. Also for medicals reasons, Tiffany Baker could redshirt. And, with Haley and Bailey potentially returning on left side, and if that is Tiffany's best position, then the depth chart could lead to a redshirt season for Baker. Sarah Hattis could be a redshirt candidate due to depth in the middle if Khat and Molly keep their spots, as expected; since neither is a senior, so playing time would still be scarce for Hattis in 2014. The same rationale applies to Chiaka Ogbogu (she is listed as MB on the roster). If no injuries to the MBs, I'd see either Hattis or Ogbogu as a potentially using a redshirt season in either 2013 or 2014. If Dalton does miss time due to recuperating, then Chloe Collins has to play and be the backup setter. Not sure where Pilar fits in, but as a freshman adjusting to life in the States, that could factor into redshirting.

Tiffany has posted on twitter and Instagram that she is redshirting this year because of her knee.
I think the other likely redshirts will be Nicole since her recovery from surgery has been slow and Chiaka because of depth at MB.
Pilar played with the Puerto Rican Sr Team at the Pan-American Games and the FIVB Junior World Championships this summer. Her ability to play at both pins and strong ball control skills will make her a starter IMO.
If the above players redshirted, the depth chart would look like:
Setters: Hannah, Chloe OHs: Bailey, Haley, Pilar, Amy, and possibly Khat MBs: Khat, Molly, Sara H. Lib: Sarah P., Amy, Kat B, Megan
I can't wait to see the team play at the Orange vs White Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 24! It looks like it will no longer be a joint-venture with the football team signing autographs while the girls play... good, I always felt the combined event kind of devalued the volleyball program in a way (even though it was set up to help increase its exposure).
