Gambling on professional volleyball is big, particularly overseas. They have even had a few "point shaving" scandals. These outfits hire research analysts to refine the odds, and I've gotten a few requests in the past asking for help identifying people familiar with NCAA volleyball to work for them. I guess they're expanding in that area. Most games that are broadcast on ESPN have lines, even some relatively minor matches that get broadcast on ESPN3 (there were a bunch from the Atlantic Sun).

Big West Womens Volleyball alive and well!
On the last day of the regular season our conference title has still not decided! The Big West could have as many as three teams in the tournament. Does Hawaii secure a share of the title and get to host? Does Northridge overcome two late season losses and make the tournament on RPI? Does UCSB earn the AQ and make the tournament?
Hawaii 12-3. Overall 23-4. At Cal State Fullerton.
Northridge 12-3. Overall 22-6. At UC Davis.
UCSB 12-3. Overall 17-10. At UC Irvine.
So much at stake for all three teams with one game to play! Hopeful that all three make the tournament representing the resurgence of the Big West.

Does anyone know the tie breaking procedures of the Big West?

And all 3 teams Cal St. NORTH+UCSB+Hawaii win their last game and we have a three.way tie for the title. But the NCAA will only permit 2 teams and now we have a problem. I wonder how much of a bummer that would be for the top 3 teams in the big west.

Does anyone know the tie breaking procedures of the Big West? From the Big West manual (just the first two tiebreakers, since I believe they would be the only ones to apply in this case): 1. The winner of the two-match series between the tied teams shall be declared the automatic qualifier. 2. If still tied, the team with the best record in conference matches against common opponents beginning at the top of the standings and working down the standings until the tie is broken shall be declared the automatic qualifier. Ties among teams at the top of the standings should be broken first to establish a ranked order. UCSB holds the tiebreaker over both Hawaii and CSUN. If they win tonight, they get the AQ. If UCSB loses tonight, and Hawaii and CSUN both win, they would be tied at the top, they have 1-1 records against each other, but Hawaii is 1-1 vs. UCSB (the next lower team), while CSUN is 0-2, so Hawaii would get the AQ. The only way for CSUN to get the AQ is to win tonight and for both UCSB and Hawaii to lose.

According to the BW, if UCSB, CSUN, & Hawaii all win tonight, it will be the first time in conference history that the BW will have tri-champions in volleyball. The last time the BW had co-champions was 2005 with LBSU & UCSB. It's a historic, and interesting, season. I can't remember the last time I tracked the progress of Hawaii's other conference opponents.

Id rather have a Tri Champion instead of co.champion. gives the Big West Conference to brag about. Hahaha.

SB gets in only if they beat Irvine and the the AQ regardless of the other 2 match results.

I hope you're right about CSUN getting in, as I think they deserve to be, but if UCSB gets the AQ, I wouldn't put it past the NCAA to find a way to keep CSUN out, and the BW down to only two entries in order to allow another major conference team in.

I really hope that UCSB is able to ignore the pressure of tonight's game and just goes out there and play hard. One thing I saw last night was that we quit hitting aggressively and started dinking way too much (with the exception of Villanueva). Come on Gauchos, time to go dancing.
Oh and Villanueva last night had 20 kills and only 4 errors with 4 blocks. This sophomore is 5'9". She reminds me a bit of Erica Menzel.
Freshman Ali Spindt had 17 kills and 6 errors, 20 digs, and 3 blocks
Thompson's serving seemed to be off, and we depend on that as an important part of our game.

So....has this AQ been decided, or what? I was reading in the LBSU/UCSB match thread last night and there were so many contradictory posts. When will we know for sure (or do we now?)?

Simple enough. Go Gauchos in that case!
