They go from a Top 25 program just two years ago to a team that is currently 0-15 on the season! WOW, what a fall this program has taken! As an Ohio volleyball fan it is tough to watch. They do not even have a single Ohio player on their roster. Interesting from a state school in one of the top 10 recruited states in the country normally. Especially in the Cincy area!

This is interesting especially considering two other teams in the state are having good years. Ohio and Ohio State. Did they get rid of coaching staff wonder what happened that they fell off.

Cincinnati did have a coaching change a few years back. I believe fantastic assistant coach, Erin Virtue, left first to go to Michigan. Look how well The Big Blue has done since Erin's come onboard.
Then excellent head coach, Reed Sunahara, left the next year, I believe. I never knew for sure if Coach Sunahara left for his own reasons, or if he was forced out by the Athletic Director.
Without doing a lot of research, I do not know all of the timing of these departures. I do know AD Mike Thomas who may have hired Sunahara to begin with, left UC to become the AD at Illinois around the time all of these vb changes took place.
Isn't Sunahara now involved with the national volleyball program?

Reed is working with the national team, and his departure never was fully understood by those on the outside looking in. I also do not know Coach Alvey at all so I do not know if this decline comes from her or a change in direction and support from the administration or what. It has just happened so fast, and I was wondering if anybody had any clue that knew more than I.

vballgirl88, I don't think you will get any answers from those who are in the know on this team. It appears that the parents involved in Reed leaving are keeping the issue to themselve. From what I read, it appears that he left to go in a different career direction. College coaching can be a grind at times. It appears that there is more to the story but noone is talking. As to the 0-15 start, what I have heard from the grapevine is that it is a very young team without any senior leadership. Six seniors graduated last year and the one returning senior is injured and has not played. I don't know coach Alvey but from what I have read is she believes in a tough preconference schedule. Playing Ohio, Western Kentucky, North Carolina and Michigan State can ware on a young team. May be a good idea to toughen up an experienced team but can be very bad approach for a young inexperienced team. In looking at their team record for the last two matches, it looks like they have played hard but have not been able to finish sets. The only comparisson that I can draw is from what Wet Virginia has done. Last year they had a very young team, but brought in top quality recruits. They played a fairly easy schedule and built up some confidence with early wins but got killed in conference play, not winning a match. This year they are like 14-1 and just beat a very good Kansas State team. Don't know if Coach Alvey recruited the same type of quality athelets as Coach Kramer did at West Virginia. Only time will tell if she can turn the Cincinnati program around. But as to what the truth is as to Coach Reed, noone is talking.

Give any and all excuses you want but the bottom line is that Molly has to turn this thing around soon or she will be gone! It is shocking to have not one Ohio kid on the roster given the talent pool.
College coaching is becoming increasingly more cut throat. The days of being a nice guy and losing are about over. Now you have to win AND be a nice guy. This must be what it feels like to coach basketball!
I do hope for all involved (especially Steve and Nicole) that Cincy can pull it together. They are all good people!

So...and that matters? Molly is a great person but no AD and or SWA can back a coach that is 0-15. Molly is safe this season but if she can't get the ball rolling in the right direction then it will get hot in Cincy in January.

Cincinatti had one of the best hitters in the country graduate, and losing a very high quality setter (that went to Texas St?) will take a toll on any team- look at UW-M with/without Kayla Price. Given the roster changes, it would seem reasonable to give the coach at least another year to show some improvement in recruiting and wins.

Agree. Look, she did a good job at Houston and as an asst at Ole Miss. She knows what she is doing. The SWA hand picked her...she will definitely get another year and she should. But after that?

but no AD and or SWA can back a coach that is 0-15. No AD or SWA? Or is this just wishful thinking on your part? Look at the starting lineup, five true freshmen who'd never been trained by this staff. They will give her more time.

Reed did not leave by his own choice.
Molly is a good coach, but with a coaching change there is usually an adjustment, especially second year and beyond and recruiting habits change, IMO. It is unfortunate that the "adjustment" has been this severe. Hopefully, the school and the players do not give up on Molly and she can get it turned around (quickly).
