I think the recruiting expectation at Hawaii is certainly lower than UCLA. I think his recruiting classes have been fine, he just hasn't been able to land the big fish compared to USC/Stanford/Washington which is that next level people are expecting (especially with a championship ring to show off). I think 2014 is the first Sealy class that really looks like a problem, in that there's only 1 scholarship commit so far. He's going to have to really pull some sleepers/transfers/foreign players if wants to dramatically improve the team. I'm always curious about how recruiting works. What accounts for USC recruiting so much better than UCLA? Same city, same LA glamor, same California sunshine, proximity to the SoCal volleyball club scene; UCLA is considered the better school academically (I think, despite its lack of a world-class event planning program); UCLA in a much nicer part of town. And yet . . .

Both of Kodiak's points are valid, but to give them their due - Mick and company are damn good at the recruiting game.

I think it's more the sport and how the coaches recruit. USC obviously is recruiting better than UCLA is at women's volleyball. If you look at women's soccer, UCLA still recruits better than USC, even after USC won that national championship a few years ago in which they beat UCLA along the way. The UCLA coaches need to get better at playing the recruiting game.

They don't have a chance at scoring a great 5-1 setter in a long while after the musical chairs of these past two years. Perhaps Sealy will watch the TV replay where Scates pointed out couple times they should let Moenoa run the 5-1 with Lowe hitting out the back.
