You can put this one in the very thick "most affordable female" file from the sounds of it.

You can put this one in the very thick "most affordable female" file from the sounds of it. I disagree--you are looking at a Christian university with specific 'standards' for employees and students. Since she is a graduate of the school, they already know from direct experience that she meets those ideals. That's going to be a BIG part of their coach choice. If a school like this has a choice between 1. A foul-mouthed, aggressive coach with a track record of outstanding success on the court and in the classroom who WILL lead them to a national title, but is irreligious 2. A coach with limited experience, but fits the mission-statement of the school and no idea if they can win a conference let alone a national title ...they will choose #2. This is much different than the hirings at St. Joseph's or Western Illinois where you would think they want a track record of recruiting and success.

I can understand that but you picked two completely polar opposites and I can guarantee you that there were a majority of coaches that are in the middle. There are many coaches that probably applied that have experience, are religiou, and aren't "foul muth$ f&$cking mouthed." Those are the ones we are talking about.

Option 1 would have never made it into the pile. I would be surprised if there was nobody with experience and the faith based approach that put their name in. Especially in bible belt country. Call it what it is. Affordable female? Taking care of an alum? Whatever. She had 3 month interview....anyone else was either a phone call or a day long visit. No chance to watch a difference in training or recruiting. How do we know there wasn't anyone else better? We don't. But the guess is there must have been....honestly we don't know. It would make sense that there were better options. The path of least resistance might be the truth as well.

Oooh, maybe its Bobby Knight, and he is going to teach everyone how to perfect their game faces! It's not Ted Knight. RIP Judge Smails. "Well.... We're waiting"

How many people do y'all think applied to get the job at a small NAIA Bible school in Lakeland, Florida?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic.

If you can hire an alumni who fits your values perfectly--who you already know--you're going to do that. I would. I have. That person is a known quantity to that program. This isn't a 'hire a woman for quota purposes' hiring and I don't think this is about cheapness. This is an alumni returning home. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Ill give you a tough sell with the small Assemblies of God, NAIA program... But Lakeland wouldn't be a tough sell... It's a nice little town. Smack between Tampa and Orlando.... And Florida Southern hasn't had much trouble ringing in good kids or coaches!
