You have to ask one of the moderators but you have to have at least 250 posts before they will do it for you. So I imagine at the pace I am going I might get there in 4 or more years. Oh joy!!!

When I requested to have it done I was told that I needed to have at least 250 posts. They probably set the bar low for me since I post so rarely.

Many features, including username/display name color can only be modified by the admin. Some features can only be enabled with plugins which the admin has to download and install. Or you could write your own plugin. I noticed some plugin features here.
In my forum, I’ve got it set up so that you can “buy” many features with our in-house digital currency. The display name can be modified by putting you into a group and then altering the many editable group characteristics like display name color, Stars, group name. Also, when you post, your post background can be user-defined, e.g., specific color or an image, that’s unique to you. So, instead of the same boring gray background, you can have all of your post against an image of your cats. But these things I’m talking about are for my forum, not this one.
Anyway, there are lots and lots of features.
When you've got a forum with membership in the hundreds, it's harder to manage. With so many requests for certain features, it can be a pain in the ass. Mine is only 12-20+ members so it's easier. It's also easier to add more and more features.
