with seniors Dixon, Wittman and Palmer leaving the program. what is in store for the gophers next year? and their future? will Nora,Santana and Tapp be able to do enough damage to be a top contender? what kind of "top recruits" is Hugh going to bring in that will cause an impact in the competitive big 10?

They've got some work to do that's for sure, and that's just to stay at number 3 in the big ten.

I think "the sky is falling" assessment that many people on here have is a bit dramatic. I think that the depth that Minnesota has at the pins will set them up nicely for next year. If passing improves (which I believe it will) I would say that they will be able to compete more consistently next year even with the loss of the two AAs. Remember that Harms was on no ones radar (except maybe mine ) before her breakout year of 2012. I expect that kind of breakout from Daly, Wilhite or Nora.

The problem with that is they need a breakout year from TWO of those three just to keep pace with 2013.
I agree that the best hope for improvement is a major step forward in ball control, but losing Wittman is going to hurt there, too.
Hugh needs an influx of talent. Is it coming? From where?
By the way, it's not so much "the sky is falling" as it's the sky is clouding over. Minnesota is not going to implode. They have too many good players and coaches for that to happen. But third definitely seems like a ceiling for this program, with plenty of potential to not even reach that ceiling.

How important do you think it is to have a team leader or team leaders? Wittman was team captain and Dixon led by example. Who is going to take their place as leaders?

I think Daly would make a good captain/leader (just my impression, of course). It's a pretty very young team otherwise, aside from Nora and Bohl.

What do you think the transfer situation is? I would not be surprised if Hugh and staff brought in a Middle. I think they feel pretty comfortable with the other positions (assuming that Rosado will actually be there this time)

Have the Minnesota faithful formed any opinion of Hugh's recruiting effectiveness? It is often difficult for coaches who move from pro sports to college sports to recruit effectively, least immediately. There is a learning curve. It's also true that some just don't like to do it.

He really started in a deep hole. Also not sure who they have gone after and didn't get. But so far there is one top level recruit coming in, in 2015. That's it. I have no idea what the reasons for this are, other than that late start. There's been a lot of patching done over the last two years. Santana was a great get, as were Knudsen and Palmer. Wilhite was lucky. Hauer was someone else's recruit. Nora was a transfer, as was Howard. Can De Felice contribute? Another transfer, but she barely played this year. But there's been very little conventional recruiting success.

There is so much talent in the Minnesota area that needs to be contained. I'm sure this is a focus of the Staff along with hitting the Chicago area hard.

Daly was (I believe) the captain of the Puerto Rican youth team, so maybe . . . but I don't know. She'll be a junior, but relatively young for a junior, having been a 17 year old freshman starter; might not feel her English is good enough (though it seems pretty good to me, the few times I have heard her say anything); and being captain of a youth team that plays in a few tournaments might be a very different thing than being the captain of a Div I team in charge of organizing summertime captain's practices, keeping players in line, teaching the newbies the values of the program, and so on.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of leading by example. BUT, if Rosado DOES join the team, this would be another good reason for Daly to be captain.
I'm not close to this team in any way, however. I have no idea what the chemistry/dynamics are like.

ROSADO is NOT coming. The U is "privately" advertising they have a full ride LIBERO spot open as of 2014
