Not entirely true, if you have someone graduate in December you have that scholarship to give for the spring semester, you cannot award that scholarship if someone leaves the program or transfers out. Keeps coaches from pulling a scholarship mid year to award to someone else. I agree that you wouldn't scholarship three setters and have four on scholarship when Seliger -Swenson arrives. If that's true, the Wittman scholarship ought to be available, right? She was an early enrollee.

On a related note, congrats to Ashley Wittman for signing with a pro team in Puerto Rico (she considered ending her vb playing career after college) where she will be teammates with Stephanie Holthus, who was almost Wittman's teammate at Minnesota. Also great that Tori Dixon signed a 3 year contract with a team in Azerbaijan!

I will admit I do not know a lot about the MN club VB scene...but those of you who worry that MN is behind in recruiting for 2015/2016 and not preventing top MN players from leaving, who is being missed out on? Are there other top MN players besides Swenson and Morgan that have committed to other programs?

Alyssa Goehner (Prep Volleyball #37 recruit, named Junior of the Year in 2012, Sophomore of the Year in 2011) - Marquette Taylr McNeil (#46 recruit) - South Carolina Lydia Dimke (#50 recruit) - Purdue The lone incoming scholarship freshman is Molly Lohman who was ranked #38. I thought that Goehner and McNeil were ranked higher.

(Taylor Morgan and Sam Swenson) -Taylor Morgan: I happen to think Taylor will do for Minnesota what Dominique Thompson does for Wisconsin. Morgan is an undersized 6'0 MB with superb jumping abilities and a powerful swing. -Swenson, a 6'0 Setter, will be a 3-4 year starter here, and hopefully projects as a top 3 B1G setter. -Jordan Thompson, a 6'3 RS, is the #3 player in the state for 2015, although I happen to know she won't be attending the U of M. She isn't really a fit here either. -Jessica Wolfe, a 6'1 OH is the probably the #4 player in the state in 2015, but she doesn't have a Minnesota offer. *Both Jordan and Jess are on Northern Lights 17-1s. The #2 club team in their age group. 2016: Is bare... Nobody worth offering. 2017: 1 or 2 worth offering. -Jazz Martin, a raw 6'4 Outside Hitter for Hopkins who is Swenson's go-to hitter, only in her 3rd year of volleyball, on Northern Lights 15-1s. I think Hugh needs to offer her. Touches 10'2. -Sydney Hilley, a 5'11 S/OH could get offered. BOTTOM LINE- WE NEED TO START RECRUITING WISCONSIN, IOWA, ILLINOIS, AND MICHIGAN HARD!

I remember Thompson being listed on Richkern as no longer being committed. (I believe it was to Syracuse.) And regarding Hilley, every top program is after her. We really need to land her.

No matter what anyone says, Minnesota will still appeal to that special breed of player who likes cold weather … how can PSU, Nebraska, and even Michigan/Michigan St. compete against these Jan. 1 lows:
International Falls: -39 Ely: -36 Bemidji: -28 Duluth: -19 Minneapolis: -9

I wouldn't get too upset about it.

Doesn't affect them! And, think of the experiences they could take with them. I survived -20! What can you say in LA? Once, it got down to 40? Hate to say this but went out last night and thought it felt pretty nice. Then saw that it was -9!

Why just the other day she complained it was -11 in Plymouth but the retort was that it was up to 3 in Madison! It's a good thing January is the quiet period. While I believe campus visits are permitted, I am pretty sure no one will be invited to Madison (-23 low, -11 high) or Minneapolis on Monday.
